New employer asking for old paystub but was severely underpaid and worried I will lose bargaining power
So HR is asking for paystub from my old employer. However, I'm afraid it will affect how much I can get paid at new employer since I was severely underpaid. I'm afraid I will lose bargaining power and I will fall behind in terms of pay growth trajectory. What should I do?
What do they want the paystub for? If it is just to prove you worked there, then you can redact the payment info.
In fact, I would send them a copy with the payments blacked out, and if that is a problem, they’ll ask. I don’t think it would be a problem though.
there is no reason for them to ask for a pay stub other than proof of employment. in which case, ask your old employer for a letter of employment.
I can’t emphasize this enough, do not give your old paystub.
Yeah black out the pay information. It’s none of their business
Bump - any other opinions? Is is common practice for firms to verify employment through paystubs? And is it common practice for them to ask about prior salary?
