No offer
Interned at an IB this summer but unfortunately I havent heard back. Other interns got offer but Im assuming because I havent heard back its a no. Honestly disheartened to see all going in vain but how do I recruit again now and what do I tell to other firms. I just feel so lost now
You keep applying/interviewing and you tell those other firms nothing. Because nothing happened.
But what do you say why you didn’t get a return offer?
I am assuming you were not given a reason for not getting a return offer?
Not every single person out there gets one, there are many factors why it didn't happen.
Sadly, sometimes you just have to move on.
Yes, I have not heard back yet. Like no acceptance or rejection call so I’m assuming it is a rejection otherwise I would’ve gotton a call. I dont know the reason so I’m not sure how to explain this to other firms because my feedbacks were all fine midway through
This is from the BIWS and M&I 400Q Guide. Hope it helps!
Q: You spent this last summer working at Morgan Stanley’s investment banking division. It seems like you’d be crazy not to go back – why would you want to work for a smaller firm in our M&A group?
A: You’re most likely to get this one if you didn’t get a return offer – let’s be honest, who really goes from Morgan Stanley to a boutique? It’s a tough sell, but you’ll have to emphasize how you like the smaller environment where you get more responsibility and work more closely with clients. The banker probably won’t believe you, but it’s better than outright admitting you didn’t get an offer. If the topic does arise, just say your lack of offer was because they were not hiring, because the group did poorly or because of the general economic climate.
Q: Why did you NOT receive a return offer from your internship?
A: For this one it sounds like you’re making an excuse if you say something like, “The market was bad” or “They didn’t give out any offers” – even if both of those are true. It’s a better bet to say something like, “I did well in my internship and got positive reviews, but I didn’t fit in with the group’s culture. From those I’ve spoken with so far at your firm, I think this is a much better fit for me.” It’s hard to argue with doing the work well but just not fitting in with the group.
Sh*t happens. It's ok, keep your head up and try again. Also, it never hurts to call back and ask what you can improve upon (if you haven't had an exit review to go over this already).
Thank you!
Got an email from MD asking for a catch up call. Im assuming this could still be a rejection?
