Not heard back after final interview

Hello everyone,

After an intense interview process, I made it through the final interview with the MD, around 1 week ago. They said they had to interview a couple of other candidates in the next days and then let me know, but not heard back since then. It is a very big shop worldwide but the local office is not so huge.

I do not think it is normal if they were really interested, and I do think I am the backup candidate, but wanted to hear what you think about this situation.

Thank you

Nothing you can do other than follow up in about a week from the last conversation. Market is still not great globally even though deal flow is rebounding in developed markets. Group heads and division heads are still mostly cautious. Things are moving a lot slower than pre-slowdown or even pre-pandemic.

Just stay on top of them, and don’t get your hopes up about any one role.

After a week it's usually a rejection. Lots of places will simply never reach out to you with a rejection, they just ghost. Teams want to keep a backup candidate warm and won't wait a week to do that, so I'd consider it a no. Obviously if they come back, that's great, but keep applying and interviewing.

Reach out to the recruiter 1 time to indicate interest, but otherwise I would not chase them

Whilst I agree that this is usually the case, just wanted to point out there could be exceptions. I had a round of super day interviews that went really well followed by radio silence for a month. I of course assumed it was a rejection, but then exactly a month later, I got a call and was given an offer as well as very positive feedback. I’m aware this is probably atypical, but just wanted to point out that it can happen and don’t completely give up yet. Good luck!!!

Had the same thing. Apparently they were extremely busy and I only got an offer after a month. Definitely follow up after a week. But at this point you just wait and don’t check emails waiting for that correspondence all day long - it will eat you up
