On Campus Recruiting at target
I got to a target school and noticed on my school's career center that some banks are doing OCR this summer. It consists of a resume drop and then applying on the banks' website. It also says there will be On Campus Interviews in late July which I assume will be online. A couple of questions:
Does this mean that networking is not as important since my school is a target for them?
Is the On Campus Interview the equivalent of a Super Day?
Does it help to reach out to the campus recruiter and get my name out there?
Networking is always recommended and is always a “boost”. While the bank is recruiting at your school (target school) they still have limited spots for interviews. Networking can get you that interview if done well (I.e. someone at the bank recommends that you be interviewed, then you get interviewed).
No that wouldn’t be considered a superday, although depends on the bank. For many firms it is first round on campus (usually a shorter interview 30-45 mins) and then superday in the office (which will most likely be online as well - this is a few hours of interviews). Very few firms that I’ve seen extend offers after just a campus interview, these are usually just the first screen, but maybe things will be different this year (I doubt it).
Reaching out to the recruiter probably won’t do much, but if you have specific questions feel free to reach out to them.
I didn't go to a target but I do a lot of interviewing at my bank. Here are some answers:
Best of luck and let me know if you have more questions. Happy to help out.
Basically all a target means is that there is a dedicated team that will look at resumes from your school, and there are usually a set number of seats for interviews. For example at my target, GS has a team of analysts (and maybe associates/HR as well?) that all went there and reviews the resumes. They then pick the best x number of resumes that get interviews. Obviously networking can play a huge role in who they pick. You have a better chance then some non target who just dropped their resume online, but being a target absolutely does not guarantee an interview, and I definitely made the mistake of assuming I had to network. You are still competing against a bunch of people from your school, so definitely network.
