Project Finance vs Corporate Coverage?

Hello Guys,
I hope everything is going well for all of you.
It's my first ever discussion on WSO and I would like to introduce a "new" topic.
To cut the story short, I received two offers from two investment banks:
- Corporate Coverage intern
- Project finance intern
Compensation is the same, "status quo" of the bank is the same...
I prefer Project finance, given the more operative role and the sense of public utility I perceive while working on those projects, and the interest I have in infrastructures/power plants given my engineering background.
The great question is: are there more exit opportunities in Corporate Coverage or Project Finance?  Would an internship in project finance undermine other working careers (M&A mainly)?
P.S: This would be my second internship (the first in a bank), previously in a BIG4.
Thank you very much, I would appreciate any idea or advice you have!

I honestly don’t get why people on this forum are so obsessed with exits.
If you like project finance why would you even think about another team? And above all, if you haven’t even started why would you think about exits?
It’s an internship man, there’s still time to change path if you realize you want to do something else in life.

Hey there, congrats on the two offers! That's a great position to be in.

In terms of exit opportunities, both Corporate Coverage and Project Finance can lead to interesting paths. Corporate Coverage can give you a broad understanding of various industries and companies, which can be beneficial if you're considering a future in M&A or corporate strategy roles. On the other hand, Project Finance can lead to specialized roles in infrastructure, energy, or even roles in development banks or public sector finance.

Given your interest in infrastructures/power plants and your engineering background, Project Finance seems like a great fit. It's a unique field that combines finance and real-world projects, which can be very rewarding.

As for whether an internship in Project Finance would undermine other careers, I wouldn't say so. Any experience in finance can be valuable and transferrable to other roles. It's all about how you leverage what you learn and apply it to future opportunities.

Remember, there's no one-size-fits-all answer here. It's about what interests you, where you see yourself in the future, and what you feel you would enjoy the most. Good luck with your decision!
