Prop shop/hedge fund or other areas for me?

Hi, I'm a CS PhD and professional gambler (poker & casino AP) looking to apply to prop shops and hedge funds as a quant researcher. I've got some recent work that shows off skills in genetic algorithms for predictive modeling as well as Monte Carlo simulations. Good C and C++ background, no Python but some experience with AWK and Lisp. I'm good with Excel but no macro wizard yet. History (long time ago) of math/programming competitions.

My rough draft first list is 3Red, AQR, CTC, Citadel, DE Shaw, DRW, Hudson River, IMC, Jane Street, Jump, Optiver, Point72, Renaissance, SIG, and Two Sigma. Any suggestions? Between Chicago and NYC I’d prefer the former, but if it’s a particularly great fit I don’t mind going anywhere.

Additionally, are there other areas I should consider looking at outside of prop shops & hedge funds?
