Question trying to be realistic

I’m trying to find out if there are people in a similar situation than I am and what they did. I am a rising senior at a small but semi-target liberal arts university. As it looks right now I don’t think I will have an internship for the summer, I am waiting on one interview that happened in the middle of last week. However, I do have some good connections that told me to get back to them in August/September but with no finance experience I don’t think I will waste their time. My only work experience is doing the spreadsheet work keeping track of orders, expenses, payroll etc for a small business of less than 20 employees. My question is first should I bother my connections? Second to the people with no internship as a rising senior and no corporate experience should I be realistic and bite the bullet and move on from wall street? What did people do? OK rant over.
