Received a call back - no clue for what job or company

Hey

I have applied for over 100 jobs the last 4 or 5 months. I received a VM to schedule a phone interview for a company. She used only the first name of the company and did not specify for what position. There were probably 4 other companies that I think I have applied to with the same common first name.

No clue which company it is exactly, dont know for what job, and she had a very foreign name so my best shot at Google and Linkedin searching for her came up nothing.

When I call her back do I wing it or let her know that I have no clue where she is from and what position she is calling about? Is it even that big of a deal?

When you call her back just tell her the vm cutout and you didn't hear which position/company she was calling from. No big deal, nobody expects you to apply to only one company and position.

"Hi, this is mcnameo returning your phone call to schedule my phone interview. I'm available this day, this day, and this day, between 9am and 2pm, but I happy to arrange for another time if one is more convenient for you. Also, might I ask who I will be speaking with?"

Just BS the call until you can ask her who you will be talking to, take his name down and google/linked in him. Ask for spelling from the HR person if it's also a foreign name. Then also ask for the HR person's email in case you have any small questions leading up to the interview. I've done this exact thing before... strange how some HR people assume you're only applying with them
