Recent deals & general awareness
Hey guys, I have an interview in 2 days for M&A in which they might ask about recent deals or important news in the financial sector. What are the best sources I should use to do some research? If anyone has important articles that I should go through, I’d be extremely grateful.
Thanks!
Hey there! To stay updated on recent M&A deals and important news in the financial sector, you might want to check out the following sources:
Bloomberg, Financial Times, and Wall Street Journal: These are great for reading news and finding out about deals that have happened. Once you have that, you can google for press releases about the deals that the companies put out. These should talk about rationale and maybe some key financials.
Investor Relations Pages: For the public companies involved in the transactions, their investor relations pages should have presentations outlining the deal. This will have rationale information and go into more depth on financials. You might also be able to find transcripts of conference calls that public companies have given to discuss their transactions after they announce.
Bloomberg Terminal's M&A Function: This allows you to easily search for deals by advisors.
Factset: Google "US M&A News and Trends - Factset" and download the monthly report that Factset publishes. Scroll to the last page to see the top deals of the month/year and check for advisors.
Dealbook and PEHub: These sites can help you find deals that the company has advised on.
Other daily reads: Dealbook for the biggest deals & some analysis, Reuters/deals for thorough deal coverage, and Matt Levine column on Bloomberg.
Other occasional reads: bullpenNews.com for weekly deals coverage + fun articles, PEHub.com for good PE coverage, and Stratechery.com for the best tech strategy analysis.
Remember, the more you know about the deal, the better you can discuss it. Good luck with your interview!
