Recent Grad Hard Time Landing Interviews

Since I graduated at the end of August I have applied to upwards of 50 positions with no interviews. I have had two ER analysts pass my resume on to HR, but it's just a waiting game now. I know I need to cast my net wider (beyond FO roles) but I'm not sure where else to shoot. I have applied to a couple Portfolio Analyst roles, are there any other BO/MO roles I should consider (bearing in mind my primary interest is ER)? The timing of my graduation makes it a little difficult to apply to some of the programs with July start dates (lots of corp fin rotations).

I have a 3.2gpa fin/econ major and internships in wealth management, corp finance, operations. Just looking for any suggestions as to where I should be looking other than down the barrel of a glock.

with a 3.2 you may be shooting a litttle too high for right now, aim a little lower and get a position first

I guess I'm asking where exactly else I should aim. Specific positions titles that I may be more competitive for?

Are you networking or just applying to positions online?

I have been networking when possible. But I have been unable to find contacts in my network at all of the firms.

Pick an industry you're interested in, get good boots-on-the-ground experience, leverage your way into a good grad school, and then recruit into. Hard to break in with a relatively lower GPA and no direct work experience (though not impossible)...

This is something I'm working on, thanks, but the best way to do this is through corporate finance rotational programs and a lot of those only start in Jun 2015. Is there any other way to go about gaining industry experience?

There has been tons posted on here about how to network your way into a position from a non-target. Think of yourself as in that position (even if you're not). Research the backgrounds of people in companies you're interested in, and even if they're not in your "network," find something that links you to them - activities in school, high school, where you grew up, weird and strange interests. Then, when you find something that clicks, send them a quick email asking to sit down for coffee and learn more about their background. Be engaging and confident in person, and ask what steps they would take to break into the industry. They'll get the hint, and if they like you, refer you to something or pass your resume along. If you're not in a location where you can actually get in front of them, call them on the phone, but do the same things.

Or, you can always just throw on a suit, waltz into the office, and say you're there to meet with whoever is in charge of hiring. Never hurts to throw a Hail Mary every once in awhile.

I did this sophomore year to get my first internship and it worked. Highly recommend it. It also looks really good in the interview to say you walked to banks and hand delivered your resume because it shows them how serious you are about the job and how bad you want it. Plus, what do you have to lose?

How does that work when you're stopped in the lobby of the office building (no elevator badge) and you don't have an appointment... please tell.

I only tried it at smaller shops. You wait in the lobby for someone to come out, and introduce yourself and give him your resume.

Or, put your documents in a vanilla sealed folder with the person's contact info on it (MD, name of recruiter - anyone off of linkedin) and deliver it to the person at the front desk.

You can mail it too. Overnight. That gets them to at least look at it.

A friend recommended to me to write and post my investment ideas to get critique and learn a good investment thought process. He got so good at it that he decided to quit his day job and invest for a living. I personally haven't tried this, so take this with a pound of salt... If you start writing about your desired industry, you can build your investment mindset by getting your ideas ripped apart by the web community. It might also be something you can point back to when you network as evidence of your interest in said industry. Most importantly, if you actually worked in ER, you'd be doing this. Might as well begin flexing that research writing muscle.
