Remote Experience for elite level college athlete

Hi All,

Im a current Finance and Economics sophomore athlete in an olympic sport at a private power 5 university.

This summer I will be competing for my national team at the world championships, this will take up my entire summer and leave me unable to do a traditional internship. However I am passionate about ultimately working in IB so I want to try and gain whatever experience I can.

What recommendations do any of you have for remote experience i could gain, which would have an impact on an IB recruiting resume. I'll still have around 6-8 hours a day to spare which I can use for this but unfortunately where training is based is not near any major cities that might have boutique IB firms.

Thank you for any advice!

Former athlete as well - don't bother trying to do this. Make sure your sport is prominently on your resume, say you competed at the 2024 World Championships / made the Olympic long list or whatever you can put on there, and you will spend a lot of your interviews talking about this. This is the kind of cool "hook" where people are willing to forgive lack of internships because you have such a unique item on your resume, and clearly know how to work hard.

I would try to get something in the fall instead. Something local to your school is fine, even a small search fund or WM firm would be okay. But remote internships are of questionable value to begin with, and I doubt your free time will align with the 9-5 hours a remote intern would be expected to work.
