Retaking the SAT - Top 50 State school

Stats:

  • State school (top 50)
  • Mediocre GPA 3.3 with a 3.8 Major GPA in Finance (Don't ask, I was unable to take a chemistry final and ended up with an F, thus completely ******** over my GPA)
  • Fortune 500 internship as a financial analyst
  • Rising junior

I am fairly confident I can get > 720 on the math portion, is it worth retaking it?

As far as I'm concerned it can only add value and for $40 a 4 hours on a Saturday, it seems worth it. Am I wrong?

Why would you take your SATs again to impress recruiters? They may ask for it in a database, but you're much better off networking and reaching out to everyone else instead.

The SAT isn't THAT easy once you're a little rusty. Also, did you take the new SAT or the old SAT? The new test is much different, and having a high math score wouldn't help at all if you have a weak critical reading and writing score.

Also, not that it would make too much of a difference, but I would budget 6 hours to actually take the test.

Good luck on the SAT - remember that the ratios of a sides of a 30:60:90 triangle is x:x root 3: 2x

If I were you I would use the time I would spend studying for the SAT and use it to study for the GMAT. Consider taking a GMAT class in the next two years as many people take the GMAT during their senior year. A good B-school would do much more for your resume than an improved SAT. Networking is key though. Once you get in the first round, your SAT is irrelevant.

Not really sure how exactly I can network......I go to a random deep south state school where there are literally zero recruiters. I checked linkedin for banking alumni (found 3) all of whom did not reply to my messages. : /

I suppose I will work towards the GMAT, is GMAT or GRE better to take?

If you're past your sophomore year in college and consider yourself even a little bit intelligent, you should be able to get a 700+ on each section with no more than a few hours of prep (just acclimating yourself to the exam structure). There are kids in HS getting a perfect score - you should be able to do pretty damn well after a few years of advanced education.
