Rising Sophomore - Torn Between Consulting and GCM (and confused)

Hello,

New here. I’m a rising sophomore at a semi-target/target school, and am torn about recruiting next year. I’m an intl political economy major (3.9 gpa if it helps to know) and am generally interested in sustainable development, emerging markets, and global business. I’m part of a consulting club on campus and want to join a finance one next year. This summer, I will be interning at an ESG consulting firm as well.

While I was initially set on consulting (specifically strategy), I find that I’ve really enjoyed my econ classes (intl finance and intl trade) and finance comps are definitely appealing. I do understand econ and finance are two different things, but I’ve recently been looking into global capital markets which, to my understanding, seems to be a good blend of international market analysis and client-oriented work. At the same time, I believe I would enjoy the traveling lifestyle and broad exposure to different sectors that come with consulting.

I would greatly appreciate any guidance on both fields and how to approach recruiting for both. I evidently do not know much about finance, but am very motivated to learn much more about the field.

Thank you!
