SA Offers Dilemma

Hey!

I have a guaranteed job offer for a summer intern position in (BO Fund Admin position), they have given me 2 days to accept the offer (I've already asked them to extend and the answer was no) and considering my class have not faired well this year with internships I'm very happy to have it.

I have also finished interviews with a BB for a SA position (Trade and Transaction area) and have been asked to come to their office to complete the case study part of the assessment centre (I've already finished the interviews and tests but the case study couldn't be completed over the phone...I'm studying abroad). I think if I perform in the case study I have a good chance of getting the BB.

So hears the question... Do I take the first job offer?

                                                                  or

Risk having no summer internship junior year and go for the BB?

Seeing as I essentially have to make a decision tomorrow any advice/thoughts would be great...

agreed but short of reneging an offer (which I wouldn't do, especially for a summer position), is there an argument to be made for going balls to the wall for the job I want?

Of course an argument could be made for rolling the dice. It really depends on (a) how confident you are in your interviewing skills for the second job and (b) what your risk tolerance is. If you can't imagine cold-calling and scrambling in the case that you don't get the second job, then take the first one. If you don't mind spending significantly more time if shit hits the fan, as long as you best position yourself for the future, then go for the second one.

I totally disagree with smalleights. The problem is that it doesn't depend on your interviewing skills if it's one interview. The interviewer might be someone you have nothing in common with, who doesn't like you for any random reason, who is having a bad day or whatever. If he had 8 interviews then you can make the argument for rolling the dice, but not on this case. Like Bearing said, renege on the BO offer if you get the other one. I know you said you wouldn't do it, but reneging on a BO role for a FO one is more acceptable than reneging for the same job at a different bank or whatever. And if not just take the job, it's way too risky to decline an offer in May. You may not have time to cold call your way in a small shop...

Thought I'd let you know got the SA BB! I put my balls on the line and declined the BO fund job without reneging....(I realize ethics will get me nowhere.) Thanks for the advice!
