I'm just about to move jobs from middle office at a mid tier in into Asset Management and the time has come for salary negotiations. My basic question is will my employer disclose my current salary upon background checks? Is there a standard practice among finance companies?

If my understanding is correct, generally speaking employers try to say the least amount of information they need to in order to avoid a lawsuit should you not get the job and so they just confirm that you worked there and that is it.
brooj14 is correct in saying that they will provide as little information as possible, and it is my understanding that they CANNOT disclose your salary without your consent. The only way a potential employer would get ahold of your salary is if they asked you and then asked for a pay stub to confirm (but even that is rare- according to the thread "should I lie about my income" that was popular recently).
