Should I be excited? Nervous? Or not a big deal?
This AM I cold emailed and took a long shot in the dark at five people for an internship in the fall. Three of which were alums at PWM firms, and the other two were from two boutique IB in the city. Thinking none would respond (I'm an incoming sophomore), 3 did just today; all with promising news and not the "we're not looking for anyone at this time"
This caught me really off guard and I still can't really believe it. Only one of the responders has set up an interview. I have the vibe I will most likely get this one....But that's where I'm concerned and now, very nervous. If my interview goes well and he offers intern, where do I go from there? I do have others that could offer interview etc...not that they would be 'better' but I don't want to commit right away if the other 4 offer something. I mean, do you postpone an acceptance? Again, this is all speculation.....
With proper assumption: I know PWM internships are given out to freshmen/sophs, but how much will I be expected to know? And what will I be doing?
I'm not sure if I'm overreacting. I just don't want to screw this up.
Oh, and btw: what suit color?
Go interview with the firms who're offering you interviews.
Pick and decide from then. Brush up on the typical finance stuff (see the WSO Technical/Behavioral Guides).
Go with charcoal or navy suit, blue or white shirt, conservative tie.
Good advice thanks! These guys are just financial advisors...are they going ask if that's what I want to do? When I want IB?
I'm just disconcerted with what I'd be doing. I know a little...but not that much.
Can I PM you (or someone) the firm just to feel it out?
I think I'm definietly overreacting. Probably gonna bomb interview anyway & get hammered with their questions...I thought PWM was good to have, but not as soph
Sure, send it over.
Tell the advisor the truth. I told mine I want to do IB and he is very understanding and supportive of my goals and willing to help out in any way possible and letting me do some more technical stuff for relevant experience.
and you don't need to know much going in. just be able to hold a conversation and be yourself. You're worrying too much bro.
Hopefully my response will be parallel...
Being myself I can do. Still just feel like I don't know enough.
Is this PWM? I was not asked a single technical question in the interview. While my internship is pretty good and I have some autonomy, it is not as analysis intense as other PWM internships. So it depends.
