Should I create a new email address to reapply for internships

I applied to summer internships last year but it was quite last minute and lacklustre as I realised about banking late and therefore was unsuccessful and wasn't to the best of my abilities. I study a unique degree so I was able to push back my graduation by 2 years which means I'm eligible for spring weeks this recruiting cycle. My question is, should I create a new email for all my applications this year or use the same one?

My thinking is that the same email will show repeated interest but I don't really want anything linked to my applications last year as realistically my applications were not that great (i.e. answers to hirevues and first round interviews were poor) compared to the planning and effort I have put in for this recruiting cycle. Any advice is appreciated!

For places you haven't gotten a first round at, you could use your old email since it will show HR and the recruiting team a displayed continued interest. Will let someone else comment on using a enw email to places you've already interviewed at.

Does HR seriously value "continued interest"—over the lack thereof—in any practically tangible way?? I mean, I know they value dumb stuff—but is this one realistic?
