Spring week questions

Hello, im an incoming UK undergrad at a target (oxbridge/imperial etc) for STEM and am looking to apply for Spring Weeks at the end of the year. I heard that applications are very competitive such that most people from targets don’t get anything. However, would being from a target + having a good academic portfolio (with academic competitions etc) be sufficient to get past the CV screening stage?

Yes, subject to a bit of luck and CV-writing skill. I'd say you are highly likely to get past the screening.

If you aren't, being a Target and STEM candidate with good academics, then who is?

You're right to moderate your expectations though - it will always be stupidly competitive. So don't blame yourself if you don't get through, but don't expect a red carpet either. But be optimistic!

I wasn't asked any technicals unless you listed it on your CV

What do they generally ask? Is there any resource/bank of Qs we can just exhaustively complete which can help?…

What I was asked in all of mine:

Tell me about yourself/Why IB

Why firm

Why you

What are your hobbies

What do u want to learn from spring

What does an IBer do

Various competency questions

Recent deal from firm found interesting

Recent financial news story

How current market impacts the firm

+ asking about random stuff on my CV

Start preparing as early as possible. Would say most people who strike out don't put enough effort into applications (although this takes a ton of time especially when people are exploring first year uni). There isn't really an excuse to be failing the online tests or not tailoring CLs etc to each firm.

Thank you. I assume tailoring CLs would be maybe talking about recent deals, and going to

Core values etc? Anything else?
