Stern vs UChicago

Visited both prefer stern but I'm pretty split. How does the ease of recruiting for top jobs compare? I will easily be in the top 20% of the class at both. I see them (stern and uchi ug) as pretty equal prestige wise, but UChicago as a university mogs NYU, so does that matter?

Pretty similar in placement and prestige, anyone who tells you otherwise doesn't know what they are talking about. Just go to whichever environment you prefer

UChicago as a school is more prestigous than NYU, and every single ranking cite will tell you that. With that being said, for finance in specific the schools are close. If you are dead-set on finance and have no interest in anyhting else, would choose based on Chicago vs NYC preference. If you think you might want to switch out of finance into another career path, UChicago is a very clear choice.

In very broad strokes: UChicago = intellectual, nerdy, and maybe slightly socially awkward. Stern = knew they wanted to do finance at 15, extremely competitive, and technically savvy. Both place well but if there's any world where you pursue something outside of finance, this isn't really a discussion, UChicago's broader reputation outside of IB/PE is far higher than Stern's.

Don't assume you'll be top 20% at either because you were val/sal in hs. Was accepted at another equally ranked target with a 4.0, perfect test scores, hs val, and got crushed academically.

Not only that, but the top 20% are also typically gods at the networking aspect of the clubs and community

Econ at Chicago is way way harder than finance (or anything) at stern.

Didn’t find stern kids super impressive in terms of intelligence but they r def more commercial than Chicago kids (not saying a lot lol)

Probably because the intelligent stern kids go to top groups where you weren't, just like any other target...

Take UChicago - has more edge in prestige than Stern for finance and academics in general. Transferred from Stern to UChicago and don't regret it

Have you found the lay prestige difference worth it? I am also currently at Stern and applied to transfer to Columbia, UChicago, and Dartmouth (also Brown, not really an upgrade but QOL is leagues better and still pretty close to Stern for recruiting). I wasn't planning on going to UofC even if I got in as everyone I know there from my high school is working just as hard as me at Stern to recruit for the top seats, but if the lay prestige (I always thought they were pretty close unlike stern to columbia/ivies) difference is enough I'd consider it.

Although I've had luck in spring term club recruiting... given that you have inside knowledge at both, would a FS/QFS/IAG Stern kid do better than a UChicago kid with some clubs?
