Summer Associate Recruiting
Hello! I can never find many threads regarding summer associate positions and I wanted to ask how far in advance investment banks start recruitment for summer associates. From what I heard it starts later than summer analyst recruitment. Is that the case? Thank you so much!
It depends on your b-school. If you qualify as a URM, then the process for the fellowships starts mid-summer the year before . If not, it depends on what banks come to your school and how core you are. The more core, the sooner it starts. Meaning, we got our first informationals for Evercore at my b-school in August 2018, while we didn't see Greenhill until mid October. This was for a summer 2019 start.

Do not apply to any online ones just yet. I would wait till you're a student and speak with the Finance Club. Agree with other poster, all schools have different schedules. I did have a call with the Finance Club president at the school I chose to attend and he gave me a no BS honest answer about which banks do and which banks do not recruit at the program (a T25, called him a good 3-4 months before matriculation since work was slow and he had some free time some random weekday). He also highly advised against reaching out to bankers pre-MBA (straight up asked him if it would come off as weird and he said it can be if you aren't professionally polished - I came from a non-business background so I decided not to reach out and I think that was a smart move).
No because the openings you see on the websites are formalities after the fact. Your school’s finance club will have a structured process for recruiting that you will follow.
You only fill out those applications once you have a Superday invite usually.
I have one last question. I just graduated with a degree in finance and will pursue an M.S. in business analytics. Are summer associate positions open exclusively to MBA students or does any business-related grad program work?
Without work experience, you're looking at the Summer Analyst programs (even with a master). Summer Associate programs are for MBAs, JDs, PhDs etc.
