Summer dilemma

Have 2 internships, each 5 weeks long - in the middle east, one a front office rotational other strictly IB. Next summer is where the issue comes to life. Lately, I've been thinking about pursuing a career in medicine, so I thought why not keep it as a viable option? To do that, however, I'd have to take a couple of science classes in the summer and volunteer at a hospital to form a better picture of the grass on the other side, meaning probably no internship. Would this hurt me should I decide to apply to SA programs? Not having a sophomore internship that is. I could probably sell the whole phase as a confirmation of my interest in finance, i.e I was not amused by what I studied/experience to the extent that I was when working in finance.

Thoughts?

Since you already have an IB internship under your belt, you should have no problem getting a summer analyst spot after your junior year. With the experience you do have at such a young age, I'm sure you could land a BB gig this summer and be in a great position your junior summer to be able to pick and choose what firm you want to work for and possibly place into PE directly out of UG. If I were you, I would definitely take off this summer, take some classes and just party and have a good time. You have your whole life to work man, you should just enjoy yourself and nobody interviewing you is going to look down upon you because you haven't had an IB internship every summer you have been in school.
