Summer Internship Advice

Hey all, I'm a sophomore at a non-target trying to break into banking, and need some advice about which of 3 positions I should take for an internship over this summer.

     1. Local boutique investment bank with small team (around 5 people) focused on M&A deals

     2. Local PE shop with about $1bn AUM focused on investments in lower-middle-market companies

     3. Decently well known investment management firm with over $1tn AUM

Which of these positions would look the best on my resume and why?

Honestly any one of these three will be great for junior year recruitment, so I’d say try to join the one you think you’ll learn the most from and also have fun.

But I’d stick away from 1, usually teams that lean are really hard to learn from by doing any modelling reps except you’ll shadow them all day long maybe!

All sound like great options. Assuming your learning opportunity/responsibility will be significant at all 3, since you want banking, I'd choose option 1. Easier to explain why banking it's because you did it, and loved it at option 1 firm. The other 2 are easy too but option 1 also give you the insight as to whether you really want banking or not. But you have to know which one will give you more responsibility and hence better development.
