You should start studying the most basic technicals the summer after your freshman year. You should practice technicals as you ramp up networking in the fall of your sophomore year. By sophomore spring, you should have most technicals down cold.

You're not going to be doing any modeling during an interview in college lol. The questions will be more along the lines of "walk me through a DCF..." For most firms it is a check the box thing, it's all pretty simple.

There’s a difference between technical skills and technical interviews. Ideal technically skills are something you develop during your undergrad / pre-junior year internships. Being good at technical interviews are 1 part understanding, 1 part delivery.

The basic 400 M&I guide questions will be enough, unless you want an EB. From experience Evercore and Moelis LA grilled me on out of the box technicals that really tested knowledge while the BB's (JPM & GS) were basic technicals with focus on behavioral and fit. Got an offer at one of the EB's above and one of the BB's so lmk if you have any other questions.
