To become a fund-manager: S&T or PE

Hi Monkeys,

So my long-term goal is to be a pm and pick the investments or at least have a role. My offers for the summer are either at a tier 1 BB in S&T (rotational) or a top PE firm (specific industry focus)

Both are great offers and I want to be a PM in the future, so what should I do? These are SA offers. I figure S&T will give me a great understanding of what it means to learn a market in/out, but PE will give me understanding of actual investment process and experience with buyside industry.

What do you all think?

i mean if you really want to get into the hf/pm role, you would likely get a more valuable experience out of PE. as im sure you know, S&T is extremely specialized, in that you are a market maker, not necessarily making investment decisions--the time horizon is completely different. additionally, the experience youd get at a PE firm would likely be a much more hands on experience. not to mention if you want to end up on the buyside, youd be better off starting there...

How so? Everyone says "trading is the exit opp for s&t". Which I agree with. Many people agree that ib/PE Place better into the hf world that s&t. So what do you mean?
