UCL Econ vs Warwick MORSE

Is there any meaningful difference between the two for finance in London?

I’m not really sure what I want to do yet in finance, but I believe Warwick will give me slightly more options than UCL as the course more quantitative so has the potential for other careers like actuary.

Warwick is also about £15k cheaper over the 3 years, however that is at the cost of being located in coventry instead of London, the latter of which could potentially help when recruiting season rolls around.

I’m aware that the course may be easier at UCL as well so that could be beneficial when applying to springs and summers.

Any response would be deeply appreciated, and I apologize if this question has been asked before.

I made the same decision this time last year between MORSE and UCL for a very similar course. First off, MORSE is very tough. If you're getting 4A* or close to it you should be pretty capable, but if you're doing 3 A-levels, then it's going to be a lot more work. Contact hours are brutal, even in first year, but the cohort will be more tight-knit and likely more cooperative.

Secondly, to be honest the fact that UCL is in London is not very important at all for recruiting. While you can network face to face, the value of networking in the UK is much lower compared to the US and most spring weeks will give you accommodation if you don't go to a London uni.

In terms of IB they place the same essentially, while for quant while I have heard of people in Econ landing top trading firms for internships and springs, I'm almost very sure Warwick outclasses in that regard. Like you said as well, Warwick would be better for actuary but try and understand if that is something you'd be interested in. International rep UCL outclasses, however.

Thank you so much for the detailed reply.

If you don’t mind saying what did you end up choosing, and would you change your decision now if you could?

I also only take 3 a levels so my main concern is MORSE’s notoriously high workload, but at the same time I’m not sure I want to ever do an essay again so might choose it to avoid them at UCL.

Np, ended up choosing UCL. My main qualm with UCL is that basically 70% of students are Chinese internationals who don't know what socialising is (actual figures probably lower, but still), but if you can find good friends, it doesn't matter too much I guess. Warwick I think is a lot has a better campus vibe and is arguably more fun. I'd say as long as your ready to do a 10-4 for studying for Warwick it should be fine, and I'm probably overplaying it. Although being at UCL I've done basically 0 work the whole year until now (exam season) but I also did that for A-levels even though I did 4 + EPQ so idk. If i could do it again to be honest I might choose Warwick just out of curiosity but at the end of the day it's a personal choice and it isn't the end of the world. If you enjoy maths and your fine with doing proofs, choose Morse in my opinion.

I’m was kinda worried about that as well, because then it restricts the people I can socialize with significantly, but the course is so large it probably doesn’t matter.

What is UCL actually like as a uni, is there any sort of social life or is it just everyone just stays to themselves?
