University Recruitment for Fall 2011

Good Morning,

Was hoping I could get some advice. I'm finishing up my last semester as an undergrad at University of Southern California, Marshall School of Business - set to graduate December 2011.

I'm interning at an aerospace & defense focused investment bank, and I have a GPA of 3.80, I also have another internship in Wealth Management. I am planning on recruiting for full time analyst positions, hopefully ones that start January 2012.

Having not been through Fall recruitment before, I am not sure what to expect in terms of positions, availability, competition. Could someone familiar with this give me some advice, such as how likely is it to get an offer? What to do in the meantime? I'm trying to network with some bankers, the internship is taking up a lot of time...

I went through Full Time recruitment, so I can provide some color here. If you perform well in your internship, understand the deals/processes you worked on, and understand the industry then you should be well prepared for recruitment. Your GPA is great and it sounds as if you have good experience, so the main thing you need to be focused on is "fit." Research the firms you want to apply to, start your networking early, and hopefully you can find a champion at the firm to go to bat for you. From there it's just a question of performing well in your interviews (you still have to interview and show that you are the right person for the job). FT interviewing tends to be more rigorous than SA interviewing (I had Super Days with 12-15 half-hour to forty-five minute interviews), because they have more to risk by bringing you on for 2 years than bringing you on for 10 weeks.

Hope that is helpful...
