URGENT: Am I Too Late for SA 2025?!

Hi everyone,

I'm currently a junior student (graduating Dec. 2025) interested in applying for Summer Analyst positions in 2025. I wanted to ask if it is too late to start the application process now, given that it's already August.

I have an uncle in finance who might offer some minor assistance, but I expect that I will still need to go through the usual interview process and compete for positions like everyone else.

I'm also working on my startup this summer, which is seeing some traction. Last month, I interviewed about 100 candidates and will soon finalize a founding engineer to develop a proof of concept.

Additionally, I'm particularly interested in working on the buyside. How much harder is recruiting for buyside roles compared to investment banking, and what does the typical timeline look like?

Any advice or insights on the timeline and application process, or advice in general about my situation would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Unless your uncle is C-suite of a major investment bank, or an investment banking MD, he probably can't help much. People in other areas of finance / other areas of these firms can't really help unless they have close contacts with senior folks in IB.

Honestly I think you'd need to extend grad if you want a real shot. Would be a full year since you are already a December grad. You can network around for some boutique banks, but they will be competitive and MM+ are full.

Startups don't carry much weight in IB - for sure it shows work ethic, but they want a 22hr/day number cruncher, not a founder. If anything I think it'd be viewed as a risk that you renege to pursue that.

Buyside is risky out of school - MFPE is not likely with your profile, and at MM/LMM PE the training is a crapshoot and dealflow is 1/10th of what you would experience in IB. Even at MF, a lot of people come out of buyside analyst programs behind an IB analyst.
