Waiting for a callback
So I haven't heard back after an interview that was supposed to have some work at the beginning of the week. Since it is coming up on Thursday, should I count it as a fail? I don't want to call and ask "Any news?", but wonder if I should set my hopes for it aside.
If it helps, the role is for advanced degree holder, with experience. Not a superday thing.

Was into the interview process with a major Canadian Bank here (Canada) for an analyst position in their MM M&A department. I had a first phone interview, then an interview with an associate and a VP, then another round with the MD (small group), and now it's been 3 weeks since I've heard from them. I called back in the meantime and actually talked to the MD who told me he had been on vacations and would get back on the matter soon (that was 10 days ago).
Last interview I did with the MD (3 weeks ago), we were 3 candidates left. He said they would pick 2 of us and have a final lunch to recruit the best one.
I mean, I would think since they only had to boot one guy out of the process, the would call him back. 3 weeks now ! goshhhhhhhh On to other things I guess, I thought I actually did good, oh well

These people are usually very busy and it may have slipped their mind. I don't think it means you're dinged.
I got my offer after a pure month of silence. Persistence without being petulant.

I find that banks in Canada generally let you know one way or the other quickly, but my experience is limited to Toronto.

Had a call with an MD set up today and he didn't answer the first time I called. Is it best to just send an email to reschedule or to try again after 5 minutes?
Usually I try again after 5 and then send an email, just wanted to check if this was correct?
You're best bet is to hit "0" or the appropriate extension to go out to his assistant. Typically an MD will have one, and let him/her know that you have a call scheduled. That person will track him down and let you know if he's running late, needs to reschedule.
If the assistant doesn't answer, leave a message.
If the MD doesn't have an assistant, then call back in 5 min and if he still doesn't answer, leave a voice mail and send a message along the lines of "Hi Name, I believe we had a call scheduled at Time today. I'll be available until Time, but if you need to reschedule you can call or email me at Details."
