What Should I do Next?

For context, was laid off amid banking layoffs over summer as an Asso. I have had a unique path to banking (was a lateral hire), but managed to get ~2 years of experience under my belt at a MM shop. While I was potentially interested in continuing banking, I didn't have any luck with interviews (made a couple superdays but didn't ever work out). I recently took a job in more corporate development side mainly because going on six months of no work felt bad / need some sort of income stream. I'm not opposed to pursuing this route, but I feel like I'm missing out on something not continuing my banking career. I was thinking about potentially going back to school and trying to break into PE, but I don't know if that would work either. I'm just like in this weird rut where it feels like I'm settling and I ruined my career because of layoffs. Any helpful advice would be appreciate.
