What to expect on your first day of work as a CRE analyst?

Dumb question…but I am starting my job at a CRE firm in NYC this Monday and am terrified. I have no idea what to except since I worked primarily in resi prior and am now transitioning fully into commercial. I was able to negotiate myself into the position, but know I am under qualified compared to other candidates. Commercial has always been my goal, so I was determined to secure an oppurtunity to pursue my passion. However, I fear failing and know I am already behind. I lack experience in key components such as excel. I am trying my best to take courses on modeling before Monday, but would greatly appreciate any advice you can provide. My head is spinning since I’m pretty sure I bit off more than I can chew. I do not have the background most people have here. I was not set on going into this industry but now that I am, I see the struggle to achieve true success. My questions and concerns range from bringing lunch and a water bottle to waterfall models and underwriting. If you had any anxiety starting a new job or relate in any manner, I would love to know more about your experience and how you overcame it. I am certain I can do the job and do it well, I just do not know how long or hard it will be for me to get there.

What area of CRE are you in? That is the main thing. On my first day I sat in HR presentations & did on-boarding stuff.

Aside from that, on my third day or first day working, I was given a portfolio and spread all the T12 financials for an associate working on the deal. I wouldn’t stress, they invested a lot in bringing you on and want you to succeed.

Best of luck!

Thank you for responding. Great to hear you jumped in so quickly; that is awesome. I am going to be focusing on investment sales for industrial and multifamily. I am starting as an analyst but hoping to move into sales somewhat soon. While it may be unlikely, it is a smaller boutique firm, so I believe there is greater oppurtunity. Despite it being on the smaller side, they function in more of a corporate manner which is why I am unsure what to expect.
