What way should I go with my extracurriculars?

I go to a target and I’m at a crossroads in terms of clubs. I’m a woman also btw. I could either apply to a bazillion finance clubs (I’m in 2 rn) or I could just go for my interests. I feel like it’d be so boring on a resume to just have finance club 1-6 over like sports interests or the arts or performing or something. One of the clubs I’d apply to would be like the club everyone wants to get into (they have a delayed process and only recruit in spring), but it’s a huge club and networking wise I feel like I’d be able to network without it even though it could be a resume booster. It’s just a lot of work when I have other clubs I can see myself enjoying more and taking on leadership more. The other clubs are less impressive and well known, but they have more unique impacts imo. Should I go for the more prestigious clubs or have a wide range of interests?

Definitely a wide range of interests, and things you can have real leadership impact in (managing a budget, planning large events, etc). You don't really need the clubs for your resume from a target, it's more to help get a freshman internship and later answer "tell me about a time when" questions.

Someone whose only interests appear to be finance is a red flag honestly. 2 is plenty and really you're only going to be able to put 2-3 clubs max on your resume, so focus your energy on clubs you really like where you can make a real impact. My eyes glaze over with every other person saying they founded their school's investment banking club and all they do is group studying for technicals... if you come in and tell me something interesting like how you grew the Quiddich club by 200%, petitioned the school to get a location and fund gear for everyone and organized a playoff series, that would be a standout item.

Also much, much more important than clubs is really internships. If you can have at least 1-2 internships prior to recruiting no one will care at all about clubs

Lord thank you 🙏🙏🙏 it has been killing me inside to throw away all of my actual interests in life to spend hours on ppt for something I don’t even get compensated for. This is such a relief. Thank you.
