What would you do if you were me?

My company just closed my office, obviously letting all staff go. Was given a good payoff and extras considering I relocated (paid the rest of my rent contract and got a good few months salary, not bad since i'd only been there for 2 months).

While I was thrown in at the deep end and floated (just). After 4 weeks, and a little fortune from an HR perspective, I was the only pure trader left so was responsible for running all algo sheets in all EU timezone markets. Have got several instances I can evidence and use that I can handle stuff when it hits the fan, think on my own, optimise systems and do some decent data analysis on concrete evidence, plus a few cute little tricks any fellow computer geek would love. I know all the strategies inside out (I had to debug them/optimise them frequently) so I can make money from the word go if my new employer demanded it, but I would like to use Jim Simons advice and do something new (have plenty of ideas).

I am a:

Physics Grad (was a few years ago though) Solid mathematician (olympiad level) Entrepreneurially spirited (have built a business on my own back previously, closed it to do this job and some dude with money and contacts is keen to get it back up and running. I don't desperately want to do this, since I love this career more but it is an option). Unerringly honest and loyal little bugger Awesome with Excel, can learn other languages pretty quick if needed Best skill is spotting trends/connected events/opportunities.

and work best around like minded people

I'm only looking for entry level positions, but if possible want to stay out of a suit. (that kind of office culture is best for me). Any suggestion is welcomed.

edit: Would you approach these companies through the usual submit cv etc. or would you try something different.

The updated FAQ has a section dedicated to networking here. It's not fully comprehensive, but gives you an idea of how to call/email your way into a position. While it is geared for fresh graduates, you should be able to extrapolate (or see the pattern, since you're very good at that! hehe) the information to securing a position in your situation. It's just a starting point, but they link you to a few good threads on networking and you can do a search as well.
