Which role to choose?

I currently have two job offers, both for a similar amount of money (before factoring in bonuses). One is as an m&a analyst in a boutique, the other as an analyst in a credit fund. I’d be very grateful for some advice on which role you all think is best and where each role would progress in terms of opportunities further down the line

TomLondonLong term i'd like to move into PE. Would that be an easier transition to make if i'm coming from an IB background? Would choosing the job at the credit fund rule out a career in PE later down the line?

Yes, IB experience is virtually MANDATORY for making the move into a buy-side PE career. Previous IB experience in M&A is the most common path you see analysts take to move into PE.

I don't know much about the credit fund, but from what I can tell, it sounds like you're weighing two completely different careers, which would take you down two completely different paths. Decide what you're most interested in and what you want to do later in life, and then make it happen.

So choosing the role at the credit fund would rule out PE as a career path, and would instead mean i'd be choosing to really focus on credit investing as a career choice?
