Why do most companies with open entry level positions come off as predatorial?

I've been trying to lateral to a different career right the past few months to no avail. I'm not sure if it's the frustration slowly building up or if I'm actually noticing something common.

But what the hell is up with most companies with open entry level positions turning out to be so predatorial? And I'm not talking about the obvious scam companies either, I'm talking about somewhat mid sized companies too that are legit. I'll find a job opening with the exact responsibilities at entry level that I'm looking for and when I look into employee feedback from Glassdoor or even first person reviews off of other forums, it turns out the company is awful and everyone is miserable and the pay just sucks. And this seems to happen across every type of role I'm aiming for too.

I'm guessing because these positions are even open in the first place is a result of all of these things leading to a high turnover that forces recruiters to have to put up a job notice? At any rate it's incredibly frustrating for me regardless.

What are most people's strategies for finding a large net of companies that traditionally hire for roles you're looking for?
