Will I get tested on my Excel skills if I put it on my resume?

Had someone look over my resume and they suggested putting in "Proficient in Excel" as one of my skills even though I'm a sophomore in college with no excel or finance experience whatsoever. I'm applying for IB roles next summer and I'm wondering if I should even put it on my resume? Will I get tested in an interview on it?

Got asked what was my favorite excel keyboard short cut. I freaked out and drew blank. I ended up saying copy and paste. Still got the offer tho.

yep, this. got asked this exact question in an IB interview and drew blank. didn’t want to say ctrl+v ctrl+c but that’s all I could think of. I said I couldn’t think of any on the spot and didn’t even get a second round offer even though I knew and MD at the firm, but the morale of the story is that if you have something on your resume, you better be able to explain/walk them through it otherwise you’ll get called out on it and look like an idiot.

Yea it was pretty dumb on my part to not know. But I agree with what you say. Don’t put anything on your resume that you can’t talk about. Even tiny details like proficiency in excel because they can always ask you dumb little questions like that.

Oh gotcha. would you suggest not mentioning proficiency and just say “Excel” or or just not at all?
