Will I look like a muppet if I take an extra year to complete my degree
Ciao,
I currently attend a uni which I believe is deemed prestigious by this forum. I wonder what the impact would be for my job prospects in finance if I take an extra year to complete my degree.
I'm a position whereby, if I sit an upcoming exam it will be difficult for me to progress to next year - I'll probably fail. If not I'll get a shit grade.
However, I do have the option to not progress this year, taking the module next year without registering a fail. This will mean that I can still achieve a first overall but will graduate a year later.
Will this be a bad look for me, deeming my CV destined for the bin wherever I apply (AM, IBD etc...) or can I explain this away?
no one cares how long you spend in uni - contrary to what you've implied, it can actually be favourable to stay longer if you accumulate internship experience during uni (e.g. see french approach)
a 1st vs 2:1 is also completely irrelevant
