After much mirth and merriment…

You know, I just wrapped up a workout at school, and as I'm casually sculpting greatness, it hit me again: why are so many people still convinced that finance—especially IB—is the end-all, be-all? I guess when you come from a background where you actually understand how wealth works—ownership, entrepreneurship, building something of value—it's kind of laughable watching people fall over themselves to become the next high-paid employee.

It's adorable, really. All these people, so proud of their "prestigious" internships, like they’ve won the lottery or something. Meanwhile, I’m sitting here thinking, "Oh, you get to be a cog in someone else's machine? How quaint." They’re practically clones, signing up to work 80 hours a week, only to live the exact same life as every other spreadsheet warrior out there. Like, do you even own anything? Or is your whole existence just about having someone else tell you what to do?

But hey, if it makes you feel good to brag about the corporate hamster wheel—sorry, rat race—go ahead. My friends and I? We just chuckle. It's cute. You keep grinding for that bonus while we own the business. You work for a paycheck, we collect dividends. It’s just different perspectives, right?

So yeah, enjoy that "prestigious" career. It’s a shame you won’t be able to join us when we're busy doing, well, whatever we want. But hey, at least you get to update your LinkedIn.

Hey, we need little guys like you to keep the wheels turning, so seriously, keep up the good work. Maybe one day you'll wake up and realize what's really going on, but then again, it's probably easier to keep finding excuses for why you're still just a cog in the machine. Us big boys? We appreciate it, pal. Don’t hate the game—you’re making it easy for us.

Wym “we own the business” lmao, you are a college student you own and know nothing.

cope post from a tard who didn’t break in and has to justify it

Not so sure about that to be honest I don’t get how people think that corporate run is the way to go. These are smart people how could they possibly think that it’s the best way to make money? I get it if you’re passionate about finance if that’s possible, but if you’re out to make moneyfor someone else it’s just not the way to go. You’re making someone else rich maybe one day but until then enjoy the slow lane.

Not gonna lie, bro, this really hit me. I’m questioning why I even do this job every day, even with the MFPE offer locked. On paper, it’s all set—top target, at a sick Rx shop—but I’m seriously wondering, what’s the point? I’m grinding 80+ hours a week, no time to travel, reflect, or even enjoy the money I’m working for. I’ve thought about taking a lesser job, but I don’t want to get clowned by my peers for stepping down. And the idea of doing my own thing freaks me out. What if I flop? At least with this path, my parents and everyone respect me, and I can hide behind the prestige, but I’m starting to feel stuck.

This is what an entitled brat who got handed down ownership sounds like.
Looking down on people who are pulling themselves up the best way they can? Fuck you

Oh, you’ve got to be fucking kidding me. This is beyond adorable. The fact that a corporate ant like you has the balls to come at me, a literal titan of industry, and tell me where I should spend my time? I mean, it’s almost pathetic how completely unaware you are of the ocean of difference between us. Do you really think that grinding away, slaving for some faceless corporate overlord, is prestige? Oh, I’m fucking howling.

"Overcompensating"? Oh, that’s rich. No, see, you overcompensate with your cheap suits and your wannabe CEO dreams, desperately chasing a title that means absolutely nothing outside your sad little Excel-sheet world. Me? I’ve already fucking won, on a level so far above anything your 9-to-5 brain can comprehend. I’m printing money, creating empires, while you can’t even create a decent excuse for why you’re still tethered to that goddamn desk.

And let’s talk about prestige, shall we? You think prestige is sitting in some stuffy boardroom, pitching numbers that don’t even matter to people who wouldn’t recognize real success if it slapped them in the face? Let me tell you what prestige is, kid. It’s walking into a room and having everyone know that I don’t need a single fucking thing from anyone. It’s owning every damn building you’ve ever worked in. It’s writing the rules while you’re still begging for a chance to follow them.

"GTFO"? Oh, honey, that’s the funniest thing I’ve heard all day. You couldn’t pay me enough to leave, because I’m not here to stroke your fragile ego. I’m here to remind you—daily—how insignificant your little life is. I could make more in an afternoon nap than you do in a year of running on your corporate treadmill. You exist to keep my world spinning. Don’t think for a second that I’m going anywhere, because people like me built the very system you’re chained to.

And let’s get real: your entire existence is just a line item in a spreadsheet that I own. So, while you’re out there busting your ass, slaving away for your next promotion, I’m busy buying and selling people like you, and it’s not even fucking hard. So don’t get it twisted, pal. You don’t have the clout, the balls, or the IQ to even exist in the same fucking universe as me.

Now, go back to dreaming about "prestige," and let me know how that’s working out when you’re still begging for scraps from the people who actually matter—like me. And next time you feel the urge to lecture me, remember: I could buy your entire life and still have enough left over to laugh my way to the fucking bank.

Surely an “executive vice president in real estate” has better things to do than argue with anonymous people on a WSO forum. Guarantee if you actually did everything you claim you do, you wouldn’t be on this forum lol. Get a life man you sound super insecure defending yourself with 5 paragraphs worth of bullshit. Get help, stop fantasising about “breaking out of the matrix” or whatever else type of BS you believe in & maybe just maybe you’ll do something half decent with your life.

While I agree with your view on entrepreneurship and ownership. Please do not come onto an investment banking website where people are vying for these roles and accept to find sympathy or common ground. It seems you are praising this message the way you are because you are over compensating for something. Please get off this website and go build and create things and let these people be. If they want to value prestige and feel this is the best they can do in life so be it. Its not your place to judge. Judging or looking down on someone shows you are lacking in someway. So please my friend gtfo WSO and go handle your business. Thanks

Oh, fuck me, this is rich. The idea that someone like you, shackled to your corporate hamster wheel, would even dare to tell me—a self-made fucking king—where I should spend my time is just hilarious. Do you honestly think your cubicle-dwelling existence, desperately clawing at a meager bonus while groveling for approval, has any semblance of prestige? I’m fucking sick at the thought that you’d even consider it.

"Overcompensating"? Oh, you sweet, naive fool. I’m not overcompensating for anything because I’ve already won, in ways your small mind couldn’t even begin to comprehend. While you’re playing your pathetic little game of corporate ladder climbing, I’m at the summit, looking down at you and your peers, wondering how you can live with such mediocrity. Do you seriously think your paper-pushing existence impresses anyone? My gardener has more autonomy over his life than you do.

And "prestige"? Don’t make me laugh. Prestige isn’t found in some stuffy suit, shuffling around the same boardrooms, praying for a pat on the head. Prestige is being able to wake up every day and say, "Fuck it, I do what I want," while you scramble for approval from people whose names I don’t even bother to remember. That’s prestige, my friend—being so far above your tiny, insignificant world that I have to look down with binoculars just to see it.

You actually had the audacity to suggest I "GTFO"? Darling, you couldn’t afford me leaving. People like you exist to serve people like me. I stay here because I enjoy watching the circus—the way you all grovel for crumbs, thinking you’re doing something important. It’s honestly fucking hilarious. While you’re "valuing prestige" in your make-believe world, I’m pissing away more money on a single weekend than your entire annual salary.

You want me to leave? No, sweetheart, I’ll stick around. I’ll stay here to remind you and all your little corporate drones that no matter how many hours you put in, how much you sell your soul, you’ll never even come close to what I’ve built. Now run along, polish that LinkedIn profile, and keep dreaming that your insignificant little life amounts to anything more than a line on my bank statement.

Your post is equally as pompous as the people you critique of being full of themselves.

To answer your question, IB / PE is seen as a good platform to build your wealth given how well paid it is, and how structured and "guaranteed" everything is. What other job has clear steps on career progression, (2 years AN, 2 year ASO, etc...) with very clear pay and bonus expectations?

Let people be, and let your work / product be the thing that stand out.

Have you been reading that CVP guy’s blogs or something? You’re starting to sound just like him. Honestly, you need to get off this site and actually build something instead of just talking about it. You’re wasting time while others are chasing the ‘prestigious corporate route.’ Let them have it. You should be out there making real moves and letting the results speak for themselves (as others have said) Stop talking, start doing please.

Why people feed trolls like this I don't know. Just ignore these morons who shitpost.

OP just sounds like a bitter person. It's quite sad really. I'd almost pity them...

Controversial

Two points for people who read this:

  1. Pretty sure this is AI generated, so don’t get riled up and take the bait
  2. I’ll actually respond and take the bait so others don’t have to and readers can understand:

Even if you eventually own a business, IB or MBB consulting to start your career is supremely valuable. It gives you corporate training that provides legitimacy forever. If I meet someone from HBS vs meeting an ex banking analyst, I have way more confidence in the ex-banking analyst being professional and fast vs the hbs grad. Having a 22 year old kid run a company is a terrible idea, they almost always have no relatability or understanding of how offices are run and corporate actions. MBB and IB teach you these things and honestly make it easier for people to respect your background and want to work for you.

This guy is writing paragraphs about how great he is and how shit we are.

Ok, I hope you enjoy working at your dad’s tire shop.

I came from nothing and went to the bottom tier non target and now I’m here working 80+ hours a week and I’m enjoying it because I worked for it.

Cope harder kid.

So this is what happens when you give a schizo a finance background and an internet connection? 7/10, decently funny.

Both IB and MBB out of undergrad are extending most of what we like about school.  Particularly the optionality, not having to face a decision yet about what you really want to do when you grow up.  And they also offer the chance to go through it with a large class of peers, which speaks to our biological herding instincts.  So they are going to feel naturally comfortable in a way that other jobs will not.

Even in my MBA program, where some folks were 30+ years old, people were choosing MBB because it's a way to not have to decide what you really want.  Not a coincidence that MBB all had recruiters with full-time offices at our school who were practically classmates.  School vibes forever.
