AI Tools at Work

How have folks been using AI in their day-to-day jobs?

All I've been doing is 1) having it help write when I get stale, 2) help summarize docs / summarize where they talk about xxx, 3) basically Google search

Feels like I'm leaving a lot on the table.  Am sure the young bucks are running circles around me.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, AI tools are being utilized in increasingly sophisticated ways across various industries. Here are some examples of how professionals are leveraging AI in their day-to-day work:

  1. Data Processing and Analysis:

    • Running sentiment analysis on earnings call transcripts.
    • Using neural networks to count physical assets (e.g., cars in parking lots) or extract text from scanned documents.
    • Automating financial modeling tasks, such as generating models from reported financials or highlighting changes in risk factors in filings like 10-Ks.
  2. Document Summarization and Report Generation:

    • Automating the creation of standardized reports from large amounts of structured and unstructured data, which can save hours of manual work.
    • Summarizing key portions of documents, such as earnings calls or regulatory filings, to quickly identify critical information.
  3. Workflow Automation:

    • Automating repetitive tasks like pulling EBITDA multiples or making changes in PowerPoint and Excel based on natural language instructions.
    • Using AI to interpret and execute tasks from emails or other natural language inputs, streamlining communication and task management.
  4. Portfolio and Risk Management:

    • Employing advanced statistical techniques to hedge correlations and unwanted factor exposures in investment portfolios.
    • Monitoring markets and optimizing sales or operations in portfolio companies to enhance value creation.
  5. Creative and Writing Assistance:

    • Assisting with writing when creativity stalls, similar to your use case.
    • Generating ideas or refining drafts for presentations, emails, or other professional communications.
  6. Research and Knowledge Management:

    • Using AI to distill large volumes of information into actionable insights.
    • Managing and organizing knowledge bases for easier access to relevant data.

If you're looking to expand your use of AI, consider exploring tools that can automate more complex workflows, enhance decision-making, or provide deeper insights into your data. The key is identifying repetitive or time-consuming tasks in your role and finding AI solutions that can handle them efficiently.
