I have a small espresso machine and use Starbucks breakfast blend to take 4 shots daily (except Sunday).

Personally I make a lot of cold brew though. No dip coffee.

I’m the same way. When I have coffee it is always no dip. Dip is pretty disgusting.

Blue bottle coffee. I wonder what they use, the caffeine feels more smooth than other brands I’ve tried although I haven’t tried that many, usually Starbucks and some nespressos

When I was in community college I worked for a food-related company that sold new orleans style blue bottle with chicory. Maaaan those were my favorite of all time.

What gen Bianca? An LB3 is on my radar for future upgrades, looks like a beaut. I'd consider getting a Decent at that price range but I'm more traditional and don't really care for the fancy screen metrics - plus, adding more electronics is just more prone to stuff breaking. Has your experience with Bianca been positive? Anything you'd recommend a first-time buyer looking for?

I have the Lelit Bianca and find it to be a great coffee machine. It’s more often used in eur so the reason we don't hear much of it in this sub is because many in this sub are US based, and the Bianca is more pricy in the US and other machines such as Profitec Pro 700 or ECM Synchronika are priced better. There is nothing gimmicky about Bianca. Most other E61 dual boilers with rotary pumps and flow control are fairly similar. But Bianca is a nice package with flow control standard, quicker warmup than most other E61s, and a movable water tank.

Bought a Gaggia Magenta Prestige, super automatic, with my first bonus. Figured I’d save money in the long run. It’s convenient, but man the coffee is watered down. Adjusted the settings, took it apart, etc. Makes great espressos, but anything >3 oz is watered down.

Probably broke even on it but definitely doing more research before buying another super automatic.

I had a Jura and if you set it to 4oz or above, it would automatically make it an Americana (watered down), so would have to do 2oz twice for a quad shot.

Yeah, that’s essentially what mine does. I’m not a huge coffee snob, but I taste the difference when I use my machine vs. a normal drip one. The drip machine has much stronger flavor.

The super automatic machines are just so much more convenient though.

Very much so, been getting into it over the past couple of years. Setup is as follows:

  • Espresso: Barista Express w/ DF64P grinder. Shit tons of accessories that make the workflow easier, including palm tamper, WDT, bar mats, a Timemore BM Nano ESP scale (essential), and probably some more I'm not thinking of. Planning on upgrading the machine in the near future - looking at the La Spaziale A53, or maybe an LB3 if I want to ball out. DF64P is rock-solid though, a great choice.
  • Filter: Fellow pourover setup - Stagg XF, EKG Kettle v2, and the Ode Grinder (v1). Great pieces that all seamlessly flow together. Use the DF64P for espresso and the Ode for pourover, not the most cost-friendly option but I like being able to keep them separate.
  • Additional: Get my beans freshly roasted from a supplier in my metro area, I try to stay within a month of the roast date for freshness. Some other things that I recommend is using locally-sourced milk, and regulating your water. I personally have distilled water infused with 3WW tablets that truly change the notes of my blend. Also recommend looking at Urnex for their cleaning products - if you own an espresso machine, you should absolutely own Cafiza, Grindz, Rinza, and Dezscal products. By ensuring proper cleaning and maintenance your setup will run thru the test of time.

Also have an Aeropress that I don't use that much, but I always take it whenever I travel for business. I'd say my setup is pretty entry-level but covers all the holistic bases that a newbie would need if they wanted to get into espresso or filter coffee. If anyone needs any recommendations, feel free to reply or PM me.

I use a Jura automatic and am pleased with it. Initially had Deloni, now use Jura. I enjoy every espresso. Great consistent coffee every time and makes the same coffee as day one.

Like any machine if you let milk plug your machine your results will differ. The touch screen is not an ipad, Its a coffee machine extra. It has its way of functioning and found the manual info helpful in understanding functionality.

Overall had this Jura for 6 months and I am pleased. The side one litre milk holder is good to have and you only need to clean it once a day

I don’t understand espressos. It’s essentially a small cup of really bitter tasting coffee with a lot of caffeine. Wouldn’t you rather sip on something nicer tasting like a cup of coffee with an espresso in it?

A cup of coffee with an espresso in it is called an Americana.

I'm a pretty simple guy.  I've had a Saeco Incanto DeLuxe (Superauto) for a dozen years, and thousands of shots.  I'll normally do a bastardized Americano in the morning with two long shots (~4oz each) and a regular shot (~1.25oz)  I've been using TJ's medium roast but may switch it up, since I moved and there's a Costco nearby but no TJ's.

The thing's been a life changer.  I picked it up used from Seattle Coffee gear for a song ($400 shipped) and other than having to replace a $25 pump has been bulletproof, and I haven't been great about lubing or descaling it.  I can adjust the amount of water in each of the small/medium/large shot options, and the brew pressure.  Pressing one button for an espresso better than most coffee shops--at home--for about ten cents worth of beans--changed my life.  It turns on, warms up and rinses 15 minutes before my daily alarm, and shuts itself off mid-morning.  About my only complaints are needing to change the clock for daylight savings and how often I need to empty the dreg drawer.

I don't have a drip machine because the Saeco does a good impression of one when it pulls a super-long shot.  There's a french press in a drawer somewhere, but I never use it.

The only difference between Asset Management and Investment Research is assets. I generally see somebody I know on TV on Bloomberg/CNBC etc. once or twice a week. This sounds cool, until I remind myself that I see somebody I know on ESPN five days a week.

If possible, encourage you to try some locally roasted beans. Know you may be hesitant to switch up an important morning routine, but I tell all coffee enthusiasts this just due to my experience - it truly is the one thing that will elevate your game more than anything else.

Unsure if TJs/Costco has a true roast date embedded, seems like it's more likely to have a 'Best By' date. Generally speaking, your beans have been roasted anywhere from 3-6 months ago and have lost nearly 80% of their flavor efficacy. The flavor difference is immediate once you switch to a freshly-roasted source; I try to stay within a month or so. If you don't immediately love it, then I'll hang my hat up - but I have yet to see that happen.

Just a suggestion! Enjoy your brew.

I used to go to this place in the West Village NYC to pull all nighters. It was freshly roasted and went through these tubes in the store to the coffee makers to make you a freshly roasted and ground cup of espresso. They had free wifi and were open 24 hours, so it was much better camping out there than in the office or at home. I talked to the owner who used to be an exec at Starbucks and he said he was all about creating the perfect cup of coffee. There is a similar shop now in the LES in NYC

LOL, I swear Fellow has '20% off' on everything, all the time. I get the emails 'Other' inbox all the time. Was hoping there'd be some better BF sales, plan on gifting some stuff to my brother who recently got his first machine. There's a pretty good Reddit post that encompasses all the coffee-related Black Friday stuff, will link it here for reference.
