Anyone else miserable? Earn well but oh man do I hate my life right now

Starting to slowly think this was all not worth it, idk. Ever since starting this job I have valued money so differently. I would rather just be happy and not stressed 24/7.

It sounds like you're hitting a point of reflection that many in high-stress, high-paying roles eventually face. Based on the most helpful WSO content, you're not alone—this sentiment is more common than you might think. Many professionals in finance, especially in demanding fields like investment banking or private equity, experience burnout or question whether the trade-offs are worth it.

Here are a few actionable steps that might help:

  1. Reassess Your Priorities: Take some time to reflect on what truly matters to you. Is it the money, the prestige, or something else? If happiness and balance are taking a backseat, it might be time to realign your goals.

  2. Explore Internal Mobility: If the stress is tied to your current role, consider whether there are less demanding positions within your firm or industry that still align with your skills.

  3. Set Boundaries: High-stress jobs often blur the lines between work and personal life. Start setting small boundaries—like not checking emails after a certain hour—to regain some control.

  4. Plan an Exit Strategy: If you’re seriously considering a change, start building a financial cushion and exploring other career paths. Many WSO threads highlight professionals transitioning to corporate finance, startups, or even entirely different industries for a better work-life balance.

  5. Seek Support: Whether it’s a mentor, therapist, or even peers on WSO, talking about your feelings can provide clarity and help you feel less isolated.

Remember, it’s okay to prioritize your well-being over a paycheck. Many have walked this path before and found ways to pivot while still leveraging their skills and experience.
