It seems like you're not alone in dealing with freezing office temperatures. Based on previous WSO threads, this is a common issue in many firms, especially on trading floors or large office spaces. The air conditioning systems are often set to accommodate the heat generated by computers and equipment, which can leave some areas feeling like the Arctic.

Here are a few tips to tackle this:

  1. Layer Up: Keep a warm jacket, sweater, or even a light blanket at your desk. Some people also swear by fingerless gloves to keep their hands warm while typing.

  2. Desk Heaters: If allowed, a small desk heater can be a lifesaver. Just make sure it complies with your office's safety policies.

  3. Speak to Maintenance: As mentioned in a WSO thread, some users have had success by directly contacting maintenance to adjust the temperature settings. They might be able to balance the system better.

  4. Strategic Seating: If possible, try to move to a spot further from the AC vents or closer to a warmer area of the office.

  5. Team Effort: If everyone is freezing, consider rallying your colleagues to bring up the issue with management. A collective voice might push for a more comfortable temperature.

Stay warm out there!

Our old office used to do this. They’d shut off the AC at 6pm in the summer. No one worked in-office after 6pm as a result. Quickly became gross.

People are on average more productive in lower temperatures.

Our office is consistently at 64 degrees and I’m thinking of complaining again. Everyone walks around in winter coats and scarves so I don’t know the rationale or who’s controlling the temp. I mean, I know the rationale, “people are more productive” - but that’s not true when people are fucking miserable.
