Are New Professors Easier Graders?

The first time I got a new Professor I was kind of nervous because they had no profile on ratemyprofessor.com. However, in my experience with two new Professors, I am 2 for 2 with an easy A. Am I lucky, or do you guys think they grade easier? I can see why they feel obligated to give better grades. If they flunk too many people their first class, then that probably reflects poorly on them and their odds of getting tenure and/or a full-time position.

The reason I'm asking is because I got two last minute Professor changes this semester and they're both new Professors.

Does it matter what kind of professor you have? You should be doing your best to pass that class regardless of how hard of a grader the professor is. This is like real-life, at least how I've experienced it so far; you might get a nice boss or a a**hole boss, but you still have to perform no matter what.

I would say, just do your best and get an A. If you always try and seek the easiest way out of life's obstacles, you won't be ready for the real world.

^I strongly disagree with ya ygi. I'm a big fan of working smart as well as hard, and if you can get an A with 1/3 of the effort just by choosing a different professor that is well worth it.

To answer the OP, it's all luck. I've had new professors that have made a point not to be easy A's- it really just depends on the individual. Good luck.

I agree with you Big wave. I am currently a student and I have just recently switched out of a class with a professor who was difficult to deal with, hard to follow and made things overly difficult. I switched into a class with a teacher who teaches the same thing, in a different way and I will almost certainly receive an A as he is much better. The way I see it, classes should be chosen solely because theyre easy. Most of what you learn in school is not very important in your career and really it comes down to reaching a certain GPA cutoff to be competitive in the recruitment process, at least for banking. Obviously the one situation where you should choose based on subject and not put as much emphasis on professor would be for upper level finance classes that will teach you what you need to know for interviews or on the job.

As for new professors being easy graders, I don't think it's safe to assume that at all. I've had different experiences with it. Have had a new professor who was super easy. Have also had a new professor who was insanely hard grader.
