Best mattress + pillows to use while working in finance?

Been working 80+ hours every day in IB for the past year. I spend the majority of my day sitting in my chair, often slouching or straining my neck. Feels good to lay down after a long day in the office and re-adjust my back and posture.

Curious if anyone here has any good mattresses + pillows that you personally use and can recommend for back and neck support and general posture.

Thank you.

Been wondering this too, my upper back bones often feel strained / has some minor degree of discomfort throughout the day. Think this is a result of working.

Is there some type of sleep or spine specialist to provide insight on this stuff?

Bear Mattress if you can swing it: https://www.bearmattress.com/products/elite-hybrid-mattress

Pros:

- Combines comfort of spring and foam

- Celliant that converts body heat into infrared that helps with body recovery and regeneration

- Tech that keeps you cool throughout the night

- Generally get free pillows (with same tech above) when you buy mattress

Cons:

- Cost can be high if you get Elite Hybrid

- Weight

Wow interesting, how long have you had this mattress for? I’m also in the market to look for a new mattress, as mine from a few years ago feels somewhat less firm/dented towards the center area.

If it’s been several years does it still hold fairly firm like the old school ones, or have you noticed any changes?

I recommend a medium-firm, hybrid memory foam mattress. Get a good one because you spend 1/3 your life sleeping and it’ll pay dividends.

Pillow I use a contour memory foam one.

Sleep on your back (think Dracula/Pharaoh in a coffin) too.

A good mattress and pillow is not going to undo the neck and back problems you are getting in the office. Try to walk/stand/stretch more often and look up tutorials of how to adjust your chair to actually fit your back. Also, many big banks have ergonomics people on staff who can help with this. You should also request a standing desk to be installed to use occasionally (or just buy one on Amazon that goes on top of the existing desk). A lot of the times banks offer these services/modifications and people just don't know they can request them.

That said, I like Tempurpedic. It's an investment, but the best you can get and it'll last forever.

I got a good ergonomic chair for home since I don't have a standing desk like in the office. Good stuff

Heard that Serta Simmons makes mattresses, nothing wrong with a good household name

I slept on a Serra for years. It was good, but Casper is better.

Been reading about brooklinen as well. Curious which type of sheets are the most comfortable - I’ve read there’s percale, sateen, cotton, cashmere, linen and flannel.

“Been working 80+ hours every day in IB”

I’ve heard of surgeons working 24hrs per day, but 80hrs every day seems excessive. That’s 560hrs per week. Sounds unhealthy.

tempurpedic orange line (i think it’s the firmest one they have) and purple harmony pillows. imo these make it always a treat to go to bed every night

Working 80 hrs per day is indeed stressful, I tend to try to stay around 60 hr per day if possible.

One other random accessory that can potentially help with sleep is a humidifier, helps me quite a bit

Sorry, 60hrs per day is not possible.

Sincerely,

I also use a pillow from purple. Highly recommend.

For a mattress, you may prefer an inner spring one. Try some out at a local furniture store on a weekend.

I am used to sleeping on hard surface. I do not understand the memory foam. It make your back and spine soft. It make soft people.

I met an Orthodox Priest at his residence and saw that he slept on a large piece of wood. If you’re gonna go hardcore, might as well go all the way.

Sealy Venetian plush mattress (same mattress as the Las Vegas hotel).  It’s plush but also firm.

Got it recently and love it

The leesa foam pillow. One of the firmest pillows that I've tried. It’s like if a firm mattress was turned into a pillow.

My head sits right on top of it and barely sinks into the memory foam. It has a medium-low loft.

This pillow is super comfortable when laying on my side.

On my back, I feel like there’s a bit of tension in the back of my head/neck since my head doesn’t sink at all into the pillow.

I have great sleeps with this pillow and notice myself side-sleeping more when I use it

Yeah I have two Leesa pillows - highly recommended! I bring one on trips and when camping. I need it every night.
