CENTRAL PARK KAREN
So in case you all haven’t seen this video, there was a bird watching black man in the Rambles (birdwatching spot) of Central Park who asked a middle aged white woman to put her dog on a leash like the rules required because it scared away the birds. She refused, and called 911 and started hysterically screaming that there was an “African American man threatening her.” In this country, countless black men have been shot by the police without having committed any offences, this goes back to our dark past of lynchings and Emmett Till. Obviously the guy was not threatening her and caught the whole episode on camera. Threatening a mans life because you don’t want to put your dog on a leash is pretty much the epitome of white female entitlement. The next day, she got fired from her job at Franklin Templeton. However, if this hadn’t been caught on camera and shared, of course nothing would have happened. What is your opinion on this? How do we overcome the scourge of Karens? What is the extent of systemic racism in this country?
I hope she saved well, she won't be getting a job in finance again. good on franklin for doing the right thing
I found the exchange humorous.
oh it was for sure funny. never seen someone be so aggro to a fuckin bird watcher
also good on christian (the bird watcher) for calling to stop the death threats. two wrongs don't make a right. from CNN:
"I find it strange that people who were upset that ... that she tried to bring death by cop down on my head, would then turn around and try to put death threats on her head. Where is the logic in that?" he said. "Where does that make any kind of sense?"
Disclaimer that writing this post out was as much for me as it is for other people, I agree she deserves being fired, etc. Good topic because things like this are always so controversial. Stupid that I have to put this disclaimer, but I'm not white and I grew up around lots of "black" people who were great to be around until all this propaganda started coming around. They're still cool (again, I'm not white so they don't resent me) but the way THEY have changed the way THEY act around our white friends is insane (resentment, entitlement, victimization) is SO SAD because we all had such love for each other before. Some of them LOOK for EVERY opportunity to feel slighted, which is HORRIBLE and NOT the way to live life. I’m super disappointed at this situation. No one OWES them ANYTHING, INCLUDING RESPECT- you should earn it. No one "needs" to 'notice' you- think about all the people that resent they're not popular in high school. These popular kids don't "owe" you anything. Think of all the immigrants- go back far enough and everyone was a slave at some point. Indians were under British rule until 1950 or something right? When Asians come here WITHOUT the “mental chains” of victimhood, they succeed immensely with arguably MORE social limitations. The problem here is that it’s much harder to reorient your mindset if you are in the “same environment” but that’s no one’s fault and there isn’t a fair solution to fix it other than to work hard and help your own family and friends out (something every other race does well). Racism is touted as the biggest problem when it's actually last on the list.
First, this situation has less to do with "systemic racism" than it does shitty people. In this specific status, we have an issue because it is a WOMAN more than it is because of black/white- the WOMAN is PLAYing a victim, a privilege of being a woman more than being a white person. The fact she's saying hes AA is on top of the fact that he's a male (in my opinion) and trying to be as much of an asshole as possible (it WOULD be different if this was a black woman I think). People step in more socially for males potentially causing violence to women just as much if not more than "suspicious black people" because cops are truly scared to make those racist kinds of judgments.
Second, NOTHING that comes from this discussion about those who talk about "systemic racism, implicit bias/racism, white privilege" is valuable in terms of changing anything (the proposed solutions are crazy, especially because this black/white marketing is insane). Lastly, there's all the "marketing" involved- making it a black/white issue to the 100th degree, the media reporting that is insane especially when incorrect, the EXTREME ignorance of when it was FAIR to shoot the black person but creating a revolt around it, the riots and violence of BLM, and finally the COMPLETE lack of personal responsibility and the rope given to blacks to act as victims and not be called out for insane behavior as a 'protected' class. Let me ask you, if we are in a fair system but the rate of change is slow (e.g. it will take 50 years for us to have a system where most PEOPLE in these roles won't be racist, or should we use racist solutions to create an unfair system that may never be changed back?). Additionally, do you think people in these roles don't know the backlash? The outrage the other way is so insane that people may be doing their job in a less capacity. White people, cops, whoever, are SCARED of the POWER black people have to ruin their lives in an instant. This is MORE than FAIR of a system we have now. The truth is this system is the best we have got and self-regulating is important. Here's a funny clip from Jimmy Fallon to explain what I'm saying:
These shitty people might be in positions of power (as police, adjudicators in whatever capacity, rulemakers). But there are a lot of shitty people- regardless of color, and the number of people who are actually racist and get away with it even fewer. These people will phase out of our system in the next 50 years because of the impact being racist has in today's society and how integrated we are/will be. Nowadays, the conversation is moving from race relations to class relations and there’s at least some merit in that discussion (especially as finance people we know the benefits of compounding wealth, passive income, the difference in capacity from 0-1MM, to 5MM, upward).
I'm one of those people who think there is no real such thing as systemic racism because the idea of black/white is so stupid in today’s age, there is nothing anyone can point to as racist in our current system (or it would be changed), and we have a great system of outing racist PEOPLE. Racist white people are only racist to blacks? Probably not, but everything is hyper focused on this issue. Black males are 6-7% of the population and make up like 50% of people in jail (something crazy like that). It's no one's fault but their own to commit a crime. Smoke a J, OK- but actual violent crimes? 0 excuse. I'm sure we can agree about that. Even then, if smoking a J is illegal if you are caught it is your fault and you should be willing to take the hit. Take some personal responsibility for this and suddenly this issue turns MUCH more reasonable. You have people advocating for PRESERVING a FAIR system, being intelligent about “checks” in a system to better handle people who ARE racist, and we forget and move on about this issue. But the truth is, many WILL NEVER be able to move on this issue because of how it is politicized and this requires deep honesty. When will people who want handouts and to be victims ever be happy? In undeveloped and shitty economies, politicians promise handouts and these people continue voting for something that isn’t actually good for them because it is “free”. There are so many things wrong that it ruins any potential for real change and this annoys me, because there are things that if implemented would improve the way corporations practice. Removing power from HR, involving more senior staff members in building policies, etc. there are all sorts of things to improve the system but none of them can be solved with viewing ALL white people as having some sort of “privilege” fuck that. Sure, “like likes like” and they will help their own family, friends but they are entitled to. Thoughts?
Finally, we should preserve people's ability to be racist in situations like private businesses, etc. that don't take government help. It's better to allow it and police these things socially. We have a great system, especially because public companies and large corporations won't tolerate poor behavior. This woman may never get a job again, which is a very life changing cost. I don't think it will make much sense to give benefits to 'protected classes' at the COST of Asians, immigrants, regular people, etc.
Buddy... just wait until CRE sees this
haha, I would love to talk about it because I'm sure what I'm saying could be much improved or that I'm wrong on some things. It's really hard to change sentiment though, and people are entitled to it.
plus I don't think my point was really that bad. yeah shit goes wrong, but do we really need to radically change so much when we usually catch the bad guys? keep doing what we doing and we'll turn out okay. let's just not jump to reparations or something insane.
TL;DR
I'm not smart enough to make a TLDR otherwise the issue wouldn't be so complicated. I think what happens is even with logic, arguments between people on "opposite sides" has one be the defensive and at the first sight of difficulty shift to another low hanging branch. Much like people who are pro abortion usually shift to rape, incest, etc. as an example of why all abortions should be legal, though I haven't really evolved a stance on abortion this happens and it's true in most arguments when people don't have a strong base. They jump and jump and this happens with these kinds of discussions where people are actually correct on both sides. However the race issue is one of the few that I think there is a side that is so wrong and off-base they need to be called out for big time.
Also, like I made a disclaimer for I made the post just as much for me to articulate my thoughts than for someone to skim across. But I wish I was smarter at making it into a TLDR or I would. I'll try to think of something
You don't have black friends bro stop. Won't address your ignorant diatribe beyond that lie.
That makes you ignorant. I put that in there because it's a fair variation of a typical "talking point" for people to immediately shut their mind off. I did it for the stupid people like you to "show themselves" and ignore all the reasonable points that exist too because they are "on the other side" (explain how this isn't similar to racism).
I actually grew up in a shitty area, was on the streets for a while, and was "one of the black people" for a long time AKA I had the n-word pass and still do today even after everything (I don't say it now though because it's controversial and not worth using), I went to their house and was like a second son to their mothers, etc. The mothers and fathers who would might not entirely agree with me but agree with the sentiments, yet the sons are the people who have real attitude shifts because they blindly accept rhetoric. If it's fair for black people to use their "personal experiences" to remark on a system that includes all colors, not just them and white people, why is not fair to use personal experience in another way? Plus, what I'm saying is really accurate- if you were black or had black friends would know that there's been a huge shift in their attitude. Anyone who's black and mature see's the same problems, which isn't even me saying if AA people in this country feel wronged they should be able to say what they want about how they feel and what they think they are entitled to. However, it should be in my right to criticize what they are saying in a similar way of saying I shouldn't say the n-word even if I was black.
The real bad guys are "Karen", sure, but the less obvious culprit is you being just as bad for your ignorance and blindness to have productive conversations and fueling a horrible narrative that America is racist. Pathetic, but again I did it on purpose because you exist and are easily shown to be as such. Obviously I'm not ignorant to how people use "I'm friends with (insert oppressed class here)" and I did it with intent- how do you call me ignorant when you are literally showing your lack of intellectual capacity is astounding and falling for something that basic. You are a joke for that.
(again, this is for me to articulate because I'm bored and less directed to you specifically than the droves of people who think similarly. I actually don't care what you think as strongly as it seems I'm wording what I am saying. You are entitled to your genius or ignorance but you are sharing one and not the other when I would want you to share both at least).
What the actual fuck are you talking about? I doubt you actually ever grew up around black people regardless Asians including Indians are still mentally enslaved because of their colour or culture, if you think Asians including Indians are accepted into society give me a fucking break. Asians have never been socially accepted regardless of a profession or income because of a multitude of reasons which effects them on every level including social and professional. You have flat out ignored the main issue and decided to try to blame black people with your racism is going to die thesis which is a lie. Racism will never die, it has been engrained on a conscious and subconscious level that is reinforced through social media and in the professional and social levels.
You're ignorant of how much race effects us but then again you did spew some its okay to be racist in business propaganda.
uhh ya bro they are financially successful in "spite" of lack of societal acceptance. calm down bruh. this means "everyone" has the capacity to be successful in the USA. "in spite of" aka there can be no real principal reason a minority does not do well as a whole as small as racism.
and no it's not ok to be racist obviously, it's that those who are racist get what comes to them. racism exists on the scale it does because of how sensationalized it is.
Also why is it ok to call me a racist? I don't see where I was racist though (in your eyes I'm ignorant but have not done anything to set me straight which would be actually valuable). I think race and culture affect us a lot, and they can be intertwined sure. What is the main issue? Being genuine here... you were kind of general.
edit: I see where you could have taken what I said in a negative manner. What I meant was, even if someone was a slave in another country the second they come to the US it feels like a "fresh start" because they are mentally separating what happened and their inhibitions to another place they have left behind. That isn't there for African americans and one reason I'm sure they feel things are not fair which I totally agree with. However, as a mental burden it sucks and is something they need to overcome themselves if they have it (e.g. no one owes them that help, or do they? should we owe them counseling, mental health services, etc? might be a good idea)
I grew up with black friends and they don't resent me for being white at all. We used to play together, ball together, play cod together, smoke weed, drink, and laugh together, and still do. That doesn't change when all the racism in this country comes under the sun. We agree on how fucked up it is, and they know I can never truly understand it simply because I am not black, something which I agree with and accept. Idk who your former friends are but that seems like a poor depiction of race relations. Also white people do have at least one inherent privilege of having greater benefit-of-the-doubt in the eyes of the police in this country, which generally equates to less bullets, beatings, and knees on necks.
good points, i agree with you. I saw those things break down from the sidelines aka much, much less interaction between the two groups.
The difference is all you guys have matured points of view that are willing to accept one another, but at the same time you don't disagree the same way people I grew up around. E.g. the black guys always posting stuff on snapchat about white supremacy, racism, etc. and white friends getting defensive and rejecting most of it. that's not happening with you. I see the resentment at that point, if it wasn't clear before. In no way should what I say be an encompassment of b/w relations, but if someone who is white disagrees on most of this stuff (which is where my opinion of them being entitled to) then the black person principally believes the white person really isn't their friend, etc. or good to be around. I think you can get where I'm coming from there.
Also I mostly agree with your last statement that white ppl probably don't face racist cops being bad to them (just being reasonable), but logically completely disagree because they die at the hands of cops in much higher numbers (of course proportions matter, but generally white people die just as much). Who knows whether white cops are just assholes to defenseless black people vs. being racist, and no one sees defenseless white people dying at hands of white cops as racism because it can't be. See the crossover of potential racism where it doesn't exist? Do agree with you in sentiment though of course and understand what you're trying to say- I'm just trying to say not everything is necessarily "black or white". there's a lot of grey
It looks like Amy Cooper, the white woman in the viral Central Park video, is a liberal. That's important https://www.independent.co.uk/voices/amy-cooper-central-park-racist-dog…
White liberal racism comes full circle. I have no sympathy for these sociopaths whatsoever.
Liberal racists are the worst kind of racists. They want to deny it so much that they claim "I can't be racist because I'm liberal". People forget that racism knows no political stances.
Used to have a roommate like that. Every time someone disagreed with him, he'd call that person "a racist". Dude grew up in a mostly white neighborhood and has 0 non-white friends. What a joke.
She played a card and blatantly accused someone of doing something they weren't. Wasting resources and abusing and feeding on stereotypes.
My only problem is why the bird watcher thought it was okay to feed someone's dog to bait it onto the road? Why didn't he just call central park police or report her for having her dog unleashed?
agree he did that knowing it could be very triggering like "how dare you feed my dog and here I'm gonna blow up and explode" but of course it doesn't excuse her behavior which was clearly a result of such emotions. he definitely escalated it though and has no right to feed the dog himself without permission. these issues happen because both sides escalate 99% of the time.
