Claudine Gay successfully ousted from Harvard -- 2 down, 1 to go

Claudine Gay has successfully been ousted from Harvard just as Liz from UPenn. Pressure going to continue to mount now on MIT's Sally K to leave as well. What are your thoughts?

Good riddance! Regardless of how you feel on Israel / Palestine, it's a HUGE win for meritocracy and a big L for the woke mind virus

This should also have a chilling effect on elite universities that are trying to skirt SCOTUS's ruling on affirmative action as all eyes will be on the the Top 50 schools (and especially Top 10) for clear evidence of merit-based admissions in class demographics next year

Moreover, corporate DEI is also getting kicked in the teeth right now with the AA ruling and now with 2 of these deans sacked to show that those who support merit aren't just going to just roll over. With X also remaining a free speech platform a lot more momentum can build up on this front -- Youtube and FB have both become less heavy handed now that X serves as a viable alternative for a good portion of content.

All in all the past 2yrs has been a big W for merit. Can't wait for the election, that will be the icing on the cake for a fantastic 3yr run of finally fighting back

The other good thing is the courts which have decades of ruling conservatively ahead. I think the current projection is the court will turn liberal again in the 2070s. Might be a bit of an exaggeration (though maybe not given staggered timing of exits and entries) but even until 2050 would be a big coup.

Ideal scenario is if Trump gets elected again, then either Alito or Thomas (or both) retire and allow for someone around 48-50 to take their place who shares similar viewpoints. That will at least prevent curb some of the worst tendencies of the alt left even if they have bigger majorities

Good thing is the setup for the Senate looks pretty positive for Republicans in 2024 with potential to snag a few more seats. It all comes down to the Presidential election -- the bans in Maine & Colorado for Trump will bite Dems in the butt. No way SCOTUS lets that stand and it will backfire on Dems for being so out of touch

Nah not in my book. I'm sympathetic to both side in this conflict (meaning Palestine and Israel, NOT Hamas) and there's been a crazy amount of tit for tat with a literal century of bad blood with mistakes by both sides. That's more complex an issue to unpack and hard to say there's an objectively 'right' side holistically

I'm more referring to moronic AA policies in both college / workplace / society (ex. cancel culture)

Someone asked him if the picture of him and his wife was a father daughter picture lol. It’s since been taken down (was on his banner not profile pic) and was not from a troll.

I don’t think he’s necessarily a good guy but I find his grifting on CNBC amusing. He said something along the lines of stay home, order chipotle, watch Netflix, etc. at the beginning of the pandemic which were all correlated with his positions at the time.

In Bill's defense re: spouse, he's 57, the old wife is ~57, and the new one is 47 so it's hardly an age gap worth glancing at. Definitely not creepy like when a man in his 50s snags an 18-25 y/o. And what billionaire wouldn't want to replace this:

As for the position stuff, activist investors gonna activist for their positions lol

I’ll play the other side here - I actually think a little splash of dei is okay in a private institution that’s not taking government money (I don’t know if Harvard meets that criteria)

but in my mind it’s gotten massively of control, especially in hiring at companies and is far beyond throwing an occasional hard working diversity kid a bone

All universities take government money because of how student loans and certain grants work, not to mention research funding. DEI itself was a major push from government into the private sector thanks to Obama era regs passed in I believe his first term.

Controversial

Her resignation letter is fucking hilarious. No semblance of an apology for her blatant anti-Semitism. No mention of her multitude of proven and accused examples of feckless plagiarism. Nope, the reason she's leaving is ALL BECAUSE OF RACISM. Hope the door hits her on the way out. First diversity hire President of Harvard wins the award for shortest term as university president in the school's history, how well deserved.

Edit: aw look, the angry woke/AA Harvard monkeys are tossing poos. That's for you to eat silly 🤡

Edit 2: Dumbasses at the AP apparently believe that pointing out plagiarism by an academic - i.e. one of the ONLY things that matters for them career-wise - is now a weapon of conservatives? If it weren't so pathetic it would almost be funny watching leftists double down on this. God forbid someone whose only job is to write papers has to do it without nearly verbatim copying other people's work (oh and she refuses to share data, just the most important part of peer review). This "victim" gets to stay on the faculty and keep a $900k salary while being an utterly unaccomplished thief simply for being black and having a vagina. Incredible.

It's wild that the Harvard board voted 9-0 to keep her after plagiarism which would have led to expulsions of students and being fired for faculty. Why did she get a free pass? The Harvard board should resign, they've failed in every way at their single task

Also hilarious that in her letter she just blames racism against her and just sweeps under the rug the actual reasons you mention above

She got a free pass because she's the very embodiment of everything woke leftists worship. She's clearly achieved nothing out of merit as shown by her sub-par academic resume being littered with blatant plagiarism and is the perfect avatar for grievance-based identarian politics, and through that she became the President of the most recognizable educational institution in the world (temporarily). But people are finally turning against that BS and realizing with enough pressure it will fold like a cheap paper cup underneath a cinderblock.

They’re also now reporting she and Harvard Corp were threatening a whistleblower during all of this.

They stepped on 3 grenades in this. Francesca Guino the HBS professor is going to get either reinstated with tenure or a massive payout (possibly both), the whistleblower now has a case that could net millions, and they can’t explicitly fire Gay who knows where the bodies are buried.

They’ll probably stick her in HKS and slowly phase her out. Personally, I’m hoping they dump her thesis advisor too who seems to employ a similar playbook and has had his ideas eviscerated by fellow academics who is also currently at Harvard.

How interesting and unsurprising they would take it there. I watch with enjoyment on how this continues to develop.

Agreed, but unfortunately it wasn't her horrendous performance in front of Congress that got this done, but rather the plagiarism. I'm pretty confident that if the plagiarism stuff had come out without any of the Antisemitism, she would have resigned faster. (Btw, Jews are a pretty small minority group--just 15M worldwide, even though the news would have you think its 250M+).

The plagiarism stuff was actually coming out and being brought up by people when she was first being considered for the job itself but those uncovering it were decried as racists and shut down rather quickly. So that in and of itself was in fact neither enough to make her ineligible nor quit earlier on. It was BECAUSE of the Congress clips that she had this massive chip against her which allowed the plagiarist stuff to be used as additional ammo on top.

If she can't write an original paper my bet would be that critical thinking is also not very high on her list of skills.

Time to bring back Larry. Or anyone else for god's sake. It's time universities went back to what they literally are - (neutral) disseminators of knowledge. Not political mouthpieces, not signalling devices. Institutions should focus on what they were founded for and not messaging.

2x Harvard alum here (undergrad + b-school)

I will admit I was surprised to receive the two letters/emails (from ex-president Gay herself and The Corporation) in my inbox this afternoon. I was totally in the camp that Gay was somehow going to be able to finesse her way through this fiasco. As others have rightfully pointed out, the plagiarism (as opposed to anti-Semitism) is what forced this resignation.

I suspect that Gay will be maintaining a very low profile from now on and may even quietly leave the Faculty at some point.

The Dems are in such a bad position. Mediocre economy on top of crippling inflation, a divided party on Israel / Palestine, AA losses, trying to keep Trump off the ballet illegally, supporting crazy illegal immigration, Biden's gaffes of supporting other countries over his own people and funding endless wars...the only thing that they have over Republicans is abortion. I think Republicans have evolved a lot on gay rights -- still more room to go but it's not what they party was 10yrs ago. If not for the abortion swing factor where Dems are clearly winning on the messaging, if not for that I'd say Trump is a near cinch for 2024. I guess we'll know we'll have to wait until at least end of summer before knowing for sure

Good news is rate hikes / cuts take 6 months to filter through the economy so as long as the first cut doesn't happen until late spring or so it shouldn't materially affect the election. Or maybe if only 1 cut happens by late spring, we'll see
