Dave Chappelle: The Closer

Curious about knee jerk, or thought out, reactions to the Dave Chappelle stand-up that recently dropped on Netflix.

I personally enjoyed it. Always great at setting the stage with anecdotes that he will continuously reference throughout the show to drive points home and usually presents thoughts with the nuance I wish a lot of people understand. I'm also a cisgender heterosexual upper-middle class born male who is probably his target audience - so of course I enjoyed it.

Thoughts?

Wdym by the last sentence in the first paragraph? Interested on what that exactly means.

Basically that feminism is really just subconsciously focused on white feminism and not feminism for all women. Because if it were the case it would look a lot different. White feminism is centered on being equal to the white man - not all men - while black feminism is centered on being equal to all men. Or like the corny ass "we see you. we hear you." blanket instagram post every person was making summer 2020.

I kinda took that he was referencing him leaving Chappelle Show and the money on the table because he was annoyed with fans laughing at the surface level racism (at him) instead of at the nuanced meanings (with him). Because he mentioned "I wont make another joke again until I'm sure we are all laughing together". After mentioning again how he "got off the bus and left behind $50MM" I feel like he'll stick to that so he's not pot meet kettle.

I agree though - especially with all the day-to-day interactions he probably has with people + where everything is going each year. The jokes tend to write themselves.

I'm glad that someone is finally coming out to defend comedy. I'm surprised Netflix even released this special. Hats off to Dave Chappelle for challenging the cancel mafia.

The man is the fucking GOAT and as always delivered in spectacular fashion.

Most if not all of the current biggest names in comedy have referred to him as the or a contender for the GOAT in recent years including but not limited to Eddie Murphy, Kevin Hart, Joe Rogan, Bill Burr, and Chris Rick. So you can kindly take your opinion and shove it lol

Thank you for making this thread. I actually didn't know that Dave released a new special, and he's one of my favorite comedians of all time (probably top 3). Just watched the special. It's great. Obviously, not as good as some of his previous specials, but given that it was done not too far since the previous one and there's been a pandemic going on and he couldn't tour and try new jokes, I appreciate that he came up with a new special, and it is indeed a great special.

Dave likes offensive humor, which is why I like him. So, no surprises that there are some offensive jokes. I don't think there's anything to discuss. It's just Dave being Dave, being witty, and edgy, and funny.
