Do you slam weights when you work out at the gym?

Had the whole gym to myself last night and was just throwing shit all over the place. Had gone around 2pm to do my deads then went back 9-11 to do some accessory work. Usually I try not to drop dumbbells or make loud noises but I was dropping shit and had all the medicine balls by me just throwing them across the gym in between sets.

I was grunting and kept saying shit like “light weight” and “bbq chicken”. I typically pace around the gym between sets but try not to get in people’s way. Was able to just walk all willy-nilly. Made faces in the mirror and growled.

One of the best workouts I have had in a long time. The weight seemed lighter. Security guard who always does a check around 10:30 saw me and started laughing as I was in the middle of throwing medicine balls and flexing in the mirror after each throw.

I think something can be said to slamming weights. Natural instinct feels good to just manhandle stuff and have no worries about being loud or disrespectful. I 100% disrespected every piece of gym equipment last night and would do it again

I get you're trying to troll and be funny (I hope), but if you're gently placing the weight down all the time and not dropping weight, then you're not really challenging yourself and hitting new PRs. If you're hitting a new PR on a deadlift, for example, then you're dropping that weight. There's a reason they make bumper plates or have shock-absorbent mats in gyms.

i definitely do not since there's always other people around. but in my old apartment when it was empty a few times, id take my shirt off and it's definitely a T booster.

Cant wait to have a home gym...

home gym is definitely the goal

I like going to gyms, but having a home gym is very attractive to me. I like to get super pumped up on THC and caffeine and can just hit up my indoor bike without leaving my place, so can push myself really hard. I've gone 8.5hrs on the bike in a crazy workout. I did 2:09 EZ on the indoor bike yesterday then 2:15 EZ swimming.

A home gym is especially nice as you can pee and refuel as needed for longer workouts.

I go to 4 gyms and slamming weights isn't really allowed. I think that's mostly CrossFit places who slam weights. The closest I go to slamming weights is when I'm trying to go really heavy on dumbbell press and drop them at fatigue. But, I get it for people deadlifting to slam it. I don't deadlift though.

There are some cable machines that I look down upon those who slam it. This includes tricep cable, lat pulldown, and cable row. Also slamming the leg press is unnecessary.

The percentage of Americans in the 1,200 lb (I realize 500kg is closer to 1,100 lbs but for arguments sake it is more or less the same) club is less than 00.1%. Are you implying you are a part of that club, as a college student?

Basic math stolen from the internet:

OK, forget 50% of the population. There ARE women who can do it, but not many. So 50% are cut.

Men under 14 or 65? Same story. Cut to 67.2% as follows:

0-14 years: 20.4% (male 31,095,847/female 29,715,872)
15-64 years: 67.2% (male 100,022,845/female 100,413,484)
65 years and over: 12.5% (male 15,542,288/female 21,653,879) (2006 est.)
(CIA World Fact Book)

Guys who exercise regularly? Let's say 1 in 5 or 20%.

Guys who use free weights in a serious way? Let's say 10% of the exercisers.

OK, so we are down to men who exercise seriously with free weights and aren't real young and aren't real old. How many of them will be looking at over 1200lbs? The very big ones, the ones with good genetics and some of the strength specialists. I say 10%.

Let's multiply:

50% * 67.2% * 20% * 10% * 10% = 0.0672%

Population of the US = 298,444,215 (July 2006 est.; CIA World Fact Book)

298,444,215 * 0.0672% = 200,554.

I mean we're talking about people slamming weights, so I think that immediately disqualifies those who don't exercise with weights regularly. So the pool of people we'd be looking at are those peole who exercise regularly in a serious way, not just the entire general population. If you haven't ever touched a barbell in your life, you don't need to worry about whether you have the privilege of slamming weights or not.

Went to a professional powerlifting gym for a while and everyone would drop the weight post DL, and I was actually taught to do the same. There is something gratifying about dropping absurdly high weights.

I like slamming the weights when Im alone or the gym is basically empty. I do my best to avoid when the gym has decent - high attendance.

All jokes aside, you're right. There's something primal about letting out your testosterone. Society does everything it can to contain masculine aggression, and when a man finally gets to let loose, it's like a breath of fresh air. It's completely natural. Being a man is more than paying bills, going to the office every day, watching the game while living vicariously through another man, and providing for a woman and children. We almost forgot what it means to be a man. Women get to cry, talk about their feelings, and be feminine all day. The only time the average man gets to cut loose, and it's acceptable, is in the gym unless they're in the military. And you can't even cut loose in the gym unless there's no one else there or unless you go to a powerlifting gym or you have a home gym. I have a home gym for that reason. I'm not trying to have people tell me to be quiet or be accused of checking out a girl that's doing her best to get me to notice her ass just so she can shame me for it while I'm trying to make a new PR.
