Dope Art Makes a Place Look so Good
Have you ever walked in a place with huge really dope art (paintings etc.). It is such a statement. I like modern pieces the best.

An old friend of mine had a framed lithograph of the "Nagel Woman" in his apartment. It always looked amazing.
Not necessarily always dope, but it definitely can class up the place. I have some architectural/historical prints that look good.
How did you market yourself and your pieces when you first started selling your work? Did you approach a gallery?
It all started when I made a piece and people would come over and compliment it. Then people would ask if I could do a piece for them and 70% of the time when I quoted a price, it was too expensive for them. But, I only use premium oil paint and it is expensive.
I sold a few custom pieces, but not that many. I have been in a gallery before, but galleries usually charge 50% of the sale price, which is a lot. Also, my pieces are typically too large for galleries as some pieces take up the entire wall. These pieces are also hard to transport - you basically need a U-Haul to move them.
Right now I’m just focusing on building up inventory and maybe selling them in my own gallery in a few years. I don’t really like doing custom pieces anymore as client expectations generally stress me out.
LOL. Can't imagine how many tube of paint are used on those big canvases. What What brands do you use?
Do you charge per inch?
I'm going to set up my own studio in a spare room if I'm fortunate enough to buy a house. Gonna practice and peddle it on Craigslist under a pseudonym. When I git gud, I'll try to get it placed in a gallery to get my name out there.
I charge by the piece. I usually use Winsor & Newton artist oil 200ml paints. It’s like $30 - $40 per tube. I’ve sold a triptych for $1000 and used roughly $300 in oil on it.

I made one from a photo I took of Big ben then got drunk and went Jackson pollock on it. All black and white with a modern vibe. Duplicated the process a few times and sold the others for a few thousand. Sort of vain but I really only have my own pieces hanging at my place. Mostly blown up photos of bondi beach, Cape Town, and Rio. Never really came across a piece I wanted that the owner was willing to part with but have seen numerous “holy shit, I want that” pieces.
Nice
