Do you like Phil Collins? I've been a big Genesis
fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before
that I really didn't understand any of their work. It was too
artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins'
presence became more apparent

I think "Invisible Touch" is the group's undisputed
masterpiece.

It's an epic meditation on intangibility, at the
same time it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding
three albums. Christie, take off the robe.

Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks,
Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance
of every instrument. Sabrina, remove your dress.

In terms of lyrical craftsmanship and sheer
songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism.
Sabrina, why don't you dance a little?

Take the lyrics to "Land of Confusion." In this
song, Phil Collins addresses the problem of abusive political
authority.

"In Too Deep" is the most moving pop song of the 1980s about
monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting.
Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as anything
I've heard in rock.

Christie, get down on your knees, so Sabrina can see your
asshole.

Phill Collins solo efforts seem to be more commercial and
therefore more satisfying in a narrower way, especially
songs like "In the Air Tonight" and "Against
All Odds." Sabrina, don't just stare at it. Eat it.

But I also think that Phill Collins works better
within the confines of the group than as a solo artist-and
I stress the word artist. This is "Sussudio," a great,
great song, a personal favorite.

Dear diary,

Today, I was introduced to the musical stylings of Dom Dolla, and I must say, I am quite impressed. His beats are crisp and electrifying, much like the sound of a freshly sharpened chainsaw.

I was particularly drawn to the track "Dom Dolla", which had me grooving in my Armani suit like a man possessed. The basslines were rich and deep, and the percussion was as tight as my abs.

You see, music is the soundtrack to my life, much like the tunes of Huey Lewis and the News that I so adore. And while they may have a different style, I find that Dom Dolla's music holds the same level of sophistication and raw power that I so cherish in the classics.

I must say, I am pleasantly surprised by this artist, and I must add him to my collection of CDs, alongside Genesis, Tears for Fears, and Phil Collins. I think I'll listen to "Dom Dolla" as I bash someone's brains in tonight. It's the perfect background music for such an occasion.

Until next time,

Sounds like a Plain White T's / Modern Baseball mashup.

I'm super into it.

Alright I dropped a bunch of sludge, stoner and doom metal in the metal thread last year (Electric Wizard, Sleep, Spelljammer, etc.).

I got into black metal, dungeon synth, & adjacent genres this year so here are some recommendations:

Burzum - genre-defining, wall of sound, extremely sick;

Summoning - great atmosphere, Tolkien influenced;

Cruachan - Celtic / pagan influenced, really fun sound;

Fantastic 'regular' black metal: Kampfar, Darkthrone, Nargaroth, Emperor, Watain, Wolves in the Throne Room, Absu.

Outside of metal: Nostrum, Miki Matsubara, Death Grips, ZHU, Aoki, Wagner, Grieg, Lana Del Rey - Blue Banisters is a fun listen
