It's funny. Just last night I watched a BBC special on the Caribbean, and one of the islands they showcased was Necker Island, owned by Richard Branson. It's completely baller, but he went into detail on what a pain in the ass it was to make it functional. He has to generate his own electricity, make his own water, it's basically like starting a civilization from scratch.

^ That sounds FUCKING AWESOME. I want to be Robinson Crusoe. If you played your cards right you could probably charge rich yuppies to do all the work for you and bill it as an adventure vacation.

^^ Yeah but completely flat with no trees or castle. I want a castle.

I agree with the whole wanting a castle thing but if you save 30mil you can probably buy a castle and have it moved there via barge.

If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses - Henry Ford

I was thinking of an Island in Lake Huron or Georgian Bay. $700K-$1 million is a much more attainable target and the Great Lakes in the summer does give the other 48-states a run for their money on the natural beauty factor:

^Nice.

^^Honestly shipping containers are great housing material. They're already weather proof and pretty cheap plus they can stack easily. Get a half dozen containers artfully arranged on a piece of land and furnish the insides with some drywall maybe through some sheetrock on the outside and you have a sweet pad that looks better than 90 percent of houses today.

I like these a lot:

Probably my favorite:
